Wound G = Better intonation?

Re: Wound G = Better intonation?

Lol, as far as the sting bending issue goes, I play bass as well as guitar and it helps out quite a bit when I switch. Get your hands strong enough and you should have no problem bending a step and a half even with a set of .13's.

Not in standard tuning, and not for sustained, controlled bends with vibrato. SRV allegedly used 13's, but tuned down a half step. Pushing a string around a little is one thing, but tasty blues bends are another. I play bass and guitar too, but to do the serious bends I do, as often as I do, I need 9's. I seriously doubt you're bending like I do (Peter Green/Jimmy Page style) with 13's.

I did that for a while in my 20s but I thought - why???

Strings were harder to get, and its a lot tougher on the finger tips. Now I'm in the starting phases of old age issues - got a bum thumb on my right hand. Its much easier going with a set of plain 'ol 10s and just playing them.

+1. There's been a number of posts here over the years from guys with carpel tunnel who had to switch to lighter strings: guys who used 10's and 11's going down to 9's. Why mess up your hands? There's nothing to prove, especially if it hinders your playing. I've yet to hear about anyone in an audience being impressed by heavy string gauges.
