I've found that the critical key to doing correct boomer bends is to make a constipated face.

trying to bend a 22w up a step and a half will make it happen

In my opinion plain strings over 17-18 shouldn't exist. Tried plain 20 in August, it was a major PITA. Yes, it bends nicely, but sounds and intonates poorly.

I bend a crap ton on the third string, so I'm not sure wound Gs are for me. But I may give it a whirl on my D standard guitar with 11s one of these days...
