Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

Are these essentially more affordable, mass-produced versions of the Relics? Still a dumb idea, imo, but if they're not stupid expensive, they're only half as dumb as the Custom Shop jobs.

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

I wonder what the finishes are made of. I can't recall ever seeing any nitro stuff out of the Mexico factory and if they're beating up on poly...well, they just jumped up a few more notches on the stupidometer.

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

mix one part classic series with one part relic and you pretty much get these. At this point, fender is pushing DANGEROUSLY close into MIA territory. ($950 for a roadworn MIM vs. $999 / $1099 for a new MIA)

Nice concept, but i hope that $950 takes into account the alleged 15 to 20 percent price hike for fenders that'll go in effect feb. 1

lol, its doubtful bro

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

i'm not a relic or preaged fan but after using my Closet Classic CS strat i have been wrecked for all my other strats right now... that thing is amazing no matter what they did to the finnish... i still don't get these pre-aged guitars... dam... if mine was not a steal of a deal i would not of bought it... But if there was some way to buy a second CS strat i'd do it no matter if it was a Relic or not...

i'm curious to see what these Road Worn things are like and the price points

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

i've always wanted a 2-tone 50's style strat.... i wonder if the Road Worn series will be filling that need

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

Who wants to bet someone already played their loved grandpa's guitar and some cretin decided to smash it around and when punched in the faced said: "what, I was just relicing that just another bit for you!" Continue the punching.

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

the thing is a real relic has a story behind every bump... a factory preabused relic is kind of lifeless.... like fake boobs... nice but still fake..

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

I still don't get the whole relic fascination let alone paying for it. There is no substitute for breaking in a good guitar the good old fashioned way.

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

I"m going to start buying those cheap Rondo strats for $89 and just whoop the living dog poo out of them. Then I'm going to sell them for double the cost. Cheap relic crap for all!

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

gah, relic'ed crap... I only like the relic job if it is fantastic and on the right color and guitar. The John Mayer strat is the only relic I really like:

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

I don't know if the whole relic craze Fender is going through is luthiers self indulgence or just a bad marketing assumption that this is what players want.

The thing that has raised Fender to fame was efficient and simple products... the production line guitar... I have no idea why the are trying to mess it up.

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

i find it funny that the new poly sprays last pretty much forever if you don't chip it... that stuff will not wear away... yet even if thin nitro stray sounds better it's not as tough... so in a way Poly is a better lasting finnish which in all other worlds would be the better choice... just not in guitar land...

that being said my 88 American Standard is beat to cr** and is a real relic of sorts...

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

I bet Fender uses assembly line guitars with paint flaws for relics. I almost guar-n-fuc-in-tee it!

IMO, that is like my opinion of Gibson and their faded series.

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

But the Faded Gibsons are just thinner coats of the finish they normally use.

This is just as much paint, then a bunch of paint knocked / sanded off.

I guess this is what made Fender decide to raise their prices 20% on everything in February? Lame as funk.

Re: Wow. Fender Road Worn Guitars!

Might be interested in one as a beater (with a replacement neck, lol) but if it's got Mexi-hardware on it, fuhgedaboudit...

How can you even entertain such a thought !!!
