Wow. Seth lovers.

A big thanks to Soulcrusher for that Seth set! My les Paul sounds better than ever and they can cover a lot of ground.

More on this soon!

Re: Wow. Seth lovers.

I need another guitar, and another set of pups, like I need . . . herpencia. But dang, I wanna try some Seth's!

Re: Wow. Seth lovers.

At this point I think the Custom in the bridge is too hot and the 59 is too scooped and bassy. You know, I wonder if I just need to pop some Seths in the LP....

Re: Wow. Seth lovers.

I gotta tell you though. I've never had a set balance so well.

REDICULOUS.

You've answered your own question. Took me a while to try Seths, but once I did, I was hooked. They spoiled me from using PG's or '57's again.

Re: Wow. Seth lovers.

I still really want to try a PG set in a les Paul but I can't imagine more "snarl" than I'm already getting. At least in the bridge position. Does the PG sound like a 20 lb mosquito or something?

Anyway I'm blown away so far and the fact that they aren't potted is sweet.

Re: Wow. Seth lovers.

This is easily the cheapest guitar I own. A little while after this shot was taken, the whole wiring harness was replaced (all except the socket) and it was fitted with a pair of used Seth's I found on eBay. Gone were the mass produced waxbuckers, in came the Seth's; what a world of difference. Who cares the price, if it plays and sounds right, it is right, and this does both.

Really... I say that because I'm a big fan of the PG set and, I mean - they're really really good in the LP. I guess I have to try the seths now. I can't imagine how much better they can sound but if I find a set for cheap it's worth a shot.

The PGb sounds twang-y (for a humbucker at least) until you get some gain on it. It has this prominent upper midrange snarl that isn't the best by itself but sits really well in a mix. IMO it's not as nasty as people make it seem but you have to try it out for yourself.

Re: Wow. Seth lovers.

You know....I sold them because I wanted to explore 'other' PAF style pickups, but I think I may have shot myself in the foot. lol The whole time, I was running my amps through a 5150 cab with the Sheffield 'Greenback' speakers. I finally dug my REAL Greenback cab out of hiding, and.......the speakers were the real culprits for making me have second thoughts. :(

Aside from that, the ONLY thing I was having any kind of reservation about the Seth was the fact that I do like to pile on the gain from time to time. For a vintage pickup, they are actually really mean-sounding! I'm thinking I should have kept them, but I guess it's an excuse to try the PG or something.

Rock them like you stole them, man!

I've wanted to try PGs for a long time because I thought they have more attitude than all the other vintage humbuckers. The Seth EASILY has tons of attitude. It's a shocker, and even if you had to pay full price......worth it.

And yet another Cort gem. I love how you staged that pic: The "working" tools. Was that by design?

Re: Wow. Seth lovers.

To me, PGN's are warmer and don't have as much treble as a SethN. My ears hear PGN's rounded high-end as better suited for jazz.

PGB's are brighter than many people expect them to be, especially considering how warm the neck is. In the bridge slot, Seth's are warmer and fuller than a PGB. I think Seth's balance better with each other than PG's do. Some players like a bigger difference between their bridge and neck PU's, and they might prefer that characteristic of PG's.

Add to that the different wind and unpotted qualities of a Seth and you get a more complex, 'alive' sound. I don't remember hearing anyone here saying they had feedback issues with Seth's.
