Wow... so much to deal with... HELP!!!

I just got my Hughes & Kettner Attax preamp.

I've now realized how much I have taken my Line 6 AX2 for granted...

The AX2 has a bus load of built in effects and such, the Attax has nothing.

I need your collective help to put together a collection of pedals/processors to use with it.

Just a quick run-down:

The Attax is a 3 channel Tube preamp. Channel 1 is SS Clean, Channel 2 and 3 are Tube. There are 2 FX loops, a Mono one and a Stereo one. The stereo loop doesn't work well with pedals, the signal is too low, but it seems to work well with the Deltafex rack processor I borrowed...

I have a Boss CE-3 that is working well for my chorus needs.

What I am finding need for is a good EQ. Can anyone suggest any? I would prefer not more than 15 bands and Rack mounted.

Sorry for the length of this post.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Trevor

I have 2 Boss pedal equalizers. One is a 10-band graphic, and the other is a parametric. Both are awesome, and they can accomplish about the same things.

I can't believe I left those out... the Power amp is a Peavey Classic 50/50. I'm using this rig for an 80's cover band. Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Ozzy etc.

The preamp just needs some smoothing out, much like the AX2 did when I started tweaking it. The EQ in the AX2 is 5 bands and I've found that it deals with the frequencies nicely. So I guess something along those lines.

The Boss suggestion was one I've thought of, I would just prefer rack mounted to keep as few things on the floor as possible.

Well from what i've read EQ are one of the best used gear to by as there isnt much to them, so if you can score some of those DBXs used it would be less of rectumfrier for you watllet.

A dbx is a fine equalizer, but an EQ unit marketed for acoustic would be just fine also. It doesn't really matter which instrument it is marketed for, as long as you have an idea of what the frequencies are. Equalizers for acoustics and basses generally have a wider range than those for electrig guitars, but they work the same.

The D-Tar Equinox is not "best" with acoustic. It's totally transparent and guys are using it on electric, bass, upright, mando, etc. But it's two rack spaces (two half rack spaces to be exact) If you want a single rack space try to find an old Rocktron ProQ. It's digital but it's pretty powerful and transparent. I have used an Attax Preamp since they came out. Have you tried both outputs? The "cab simulated" and the regular? (can't remember what they call them) Anyway the ProQ or Equinox would be my suggestions. I personally like parametric and shelving better than graphic for guitar.
