Wow, Whew, The Page Wiring is Complete!!!

Hey guys, I did it. It took me right around 15hrs. to wire up. I havn't even monkeyed with the combos or anything, I just plugged it in and made sure all the pots and switch worked. Man what a job, there should be a club or t-shirt or something for the DIYers who do this.:arms: I wouldn't want to do it on a daily basis or ever again for that matter. LOL:crying:

Not a peep of unwanted noise when I plugged it in. I ran all the grounds right to the Jack. Only two things:

1. I'm a doof and the neck pots are where the bridge pots are supposed to be and vise versa. Man, the wiring in there is so cramped and with extra slack considerations I don't know if I'll be able to move the pots to their proper holes without resoldering.

2. I'm also a cheapskate and bought the pots that were not the best I could have bought. (prolly a mistake I"ll pay for in the future.)

They're a little scratchy right off the bat. Any cures for that???

Get the scratchiness taken care of and the pots where they're supposed to be and I'm good to go. I did it on the first try, but I went over the schematics like they were under a microscope.

Also, theres supposed to be a dead spot in there when the pots and switch are in a certain combo right?

**** congrats. thats an undertaking i'll probably never attempt (i'm pretty meat and potatoes when it comes to using a pickup selector). the pots MAY be a little dirty/dusty inside from the manufacturer. spray some contact cleaner in them and twist the knob back and forth to give it a cleaning. also try an air duster

Thanks, I'm pretty tickled too. Not only that, but I had to convert the DC in my bridge from 1 to 4 conductor and thats a job right there. I"m not trying to brag, seriously, I'm just proud of my DIY skills lately. I managed to give the pots a summersault in the control cavity and by the grace of god, I got them into their right holes.

PUs: DC, ' 59n, (they have to be 4 conductor) 4 push pull pots, .047 caps. Try to get real small gauge wire, like the size of the PU wire. Its just so much easier to work with, cause things get real crowed in the control cavity.

Nice job. To deal with the "scratchy" problem, get some Caig Labs Deoxit. I believe it may be sold under the goofy "Powerbooster" name now. I also believe Radio Shack carries it now. One can should last you a lifetime. There's nothing better. Nothing.

Congrats! i want to do this to my tele deluxe, but i just wired up a custom iceman from scratch and it was a night mare! the tele should be easier though, since its not in a crowded cavity like the iceman or les paul. just flip the pickguard!

what are DC's? (i feel dumb)
what kind of .047 caps did you use?
and where did you get the push pull pots?

DC's are Duncan Customs. I chose this cause its got a vintage sound only higher output, and I got a good deal on one. As for caps, I just used radioshack polyester film specials. I got my push pulls from a guy on ebay, they're not the best brand, (alpha), but they seem to be working fine so far. I'm kind of thrifty and the axe isn't a real Gibson, or even an Epiphone, so i didn't want to stick piles of $ into it, but I"ll post a pic later. It didn't turn out too bad.

Banish that thought! I have been toying with the idea to post a thread about doing the same thing; switching the LP rythm/treble control positions! It just seems more natural to me. I usually mess with the treble pickup, so the first knob I grab a pull of is naturally/inadvertantly is the standard rythm volume position. Besides, when one looks at the "diamond pattern" of an LP control layout...the normal duet of controls for the rythm is "further south" (like the treble pickup) toward the strap button anyhow!

Glad to see another success story. I think all of us have learned things & developed new skills. Thanks to the players who contribute to this forum!
