Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

pictures.

i just ordered some evo gold fretwire so i am committed now.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

I like it when the gold wears thin in spots, and the underlying metal plating shows through.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

I love gold hardware on the right guitars. It looks great on my olive green Warmoth which also has gold frets. It looks worn all over the guitar which makes it even cooler. I also love gold hardware on purple guitars as well as arctic white Les Pauls. It usually looks pretty good on black Les Pauls and 335 styles too.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

I kinda dig gold hardware, but I agree with SnakeAces that it has to be on the right guitar.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

What guitar? I pretty much only like it on white or black LP Customs or maybe a Black Strat or SRV Strat.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

I'm rebuilding an Ibanez Cinnamon RG... I'm thinking gold'll fit the bill nicely...

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

Gold suits black extremely well. It's one of my all time favourites. Simple yet classy.

Purple and gold is also very nice but about as extravagant as it gets. It's typically too much, but when it's right, there's nothing else that'll do.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

On the right guitar, I love the look of gold hardware when it's new. But dislike the lack of durability of the finish. As far as purple, yeah, looks good on purple, but I also like chrome on purple. I had a purple Carvin with a gorgeous flame top. It had a chrome floyd and knobs, so I put a chrome truss cover and pickup rings on it and it was stunning.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

I second the above..."on the right guitar"...personally prefer Gold on Les Paul's but Black or Chrome on a Strat.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

Keep it until it begins to tarnish, and let it fade. Looks much better that way IMO, though shiny does have its charm on the right guitar, as has been confirmed by many here.

To increase the erosion, play it sweaty and don't wipe it down, then let it sit/hang in the open. You should start to see it turning in a couple of weeks. After a few months, it'll lose almost all of the shine and become cloudy. This is when it looks its best to me.

I think if Satin Gold were an option for hardware, I'd go broke buying it.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

i really REALLY dislike it
think i'm going to post a trade in the classifieds

The only way I'd take gold was if the choice was between that and the brownish cosmo chrome that Ibanez uses that wears off when you look at it.

I have black hardware on all of my guitars except for one. (It has a chrome tailpiece that's specific to that model of guitar, the mounting and routing of the body prevent changing it for anything else. Stuck using chrome hardware on that guitar.)

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

just not a fan of gold hardware

if it were on a guitar I really dug
then I might.....

naw I would just keep looking for one I dug without the gold

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

As aforementioned, I love gold hardware on the right guitar. I have quite a few guitars with gold hardware, and they look great. I just don't think any of them would look right without it.

Re: Wowzy, i was right about gold hardware

Although this photo doesn't show it the best, here is my Warmoth with very aged gold hardware. IMO it just wouldn't look right with chrome or black:

I even used to have covered gold humbuckers in it but I prefer the tone of the uncovered. I ordered them with gold poles though, however, this guitar gets used so much the gold poles have worn away.
