Frito's Better Half
Up for grabs is my "Wrongbox" cigar box lap steel. I built this little guy on a whim awhile back, because I just "had to have" a lap steel, and wasn't really up for dropping coin on one. Well, I've never really used it. Rocked it out at the house a few times, gigged it once, but that's it.
For the past two months it's done nothing but hang on the wall and look pretty. Hell, right now it can't even live up to it's full potential.
Here's some info on the little guy.
It's crafted from a CAO laminated Mahogany cigar box. The neck is Podouk or however you spell it, and rings out quite nicely. It's fretted, so if you'd like to drop the action at the nut and play it as a fingered guitar, it can be done (although it would pose a challenge with the square neck).
It's currently tuned to open E with GHS flatwounds. I replaced the B and E strings with a .020 and .016, respectively.
As for the electronics, I made the pickup. It's not magnetic, but is a transducer. I used some coil I had from a busted up 70's DiMarzio Super Distortion and some other gadgetry and created quite possibly the coolest sounding transducer pickup ever. The finishing nail you see, is the saddle with allows the strings vibrations to go to a veneer of birds eye maple, to the transducer with it housed within a block of purple heart. The pot is a full sized CTS, and everything works great.
I really wish I had a recording of this baby, because it has quite possibly the best amplified slide tone you've ever heard. Clean, it leaves something to be desired, but with you throw just a little grit (or a lot) into the mix, it screams to life. But, since I don't have a recording, you'll have to take my word on it. And since tone is subjective, I'm offering a deal. A 10 day "return" policy. If you don't dig the tone, send it back within 10 days of receiving it. I know it makes me kinda sound like a store, but I really don't want to leave a forum bro high and dry with something that he doesn't dig, ya know?
I'm asking 150 shipped to the lower 48. I will ship internationally, and if such a need arises, we'll work out shipping payment and details through PM.
Now for the porn.
As for trades, right now I'm interested in just a little amp. Pignose, one of those mini Fender or Marshalls, Microcube, whatever. Just a wee amp, ya know? Doesn't have to be spectacular, just usable. That, or if you've got an acoustic you wanna get rid of
