I've got the iMac and will soon be buying my son a macbook for college. VK's got a nice older generation one for a great price, but for this application, the mini is the way to go. For my son's eventual college laptop, I want it to be the latest and greatest to hopefully last him 4 years. Like they say, 18 month moore's law. But, he'll just have to squeeze 4 years out of it regardless.
I'd strongly suggest getting him the base model MacBook Pro if at all possible - everything is better about it...
In my opinion, it's not worth the $$$ to buy a laptop that's expected to keep up for four years. You can add some life with a RAM and hard drive upgrade (much cheaper a year or so after you buy the machine) but in my experience it's cheaper to buy two machines (one today and another 2 down the road) than to get one that will not be a slug four years from now.For my son's eventual college laptop, I want it to be the latest and greatest to hopefully last him 4 years. OFF TOPIC: Scott, did he get a football scholarship? What school ? :beerchug:
