Good interfaces are so cheap these days, it doesn't pay to take on someone else's out-of-date model. Just buy a new Focusrite Scarlett Solo ($99) or for a few more bucks a Scarlett 2i2. Download an evaluation copy of Reaper and you're off to the races.
I started with a 2i4, but cut back to a 2i2 when my daughter needed an interface, and she's using the 2i4's MIDI, which I didn't. Setting the interface up and getting it working is WAY easier than learning the "recording" part of recording.
