WTB: Yamaha Super Flighter

Hey guys,

I'm starting out as a bit of collector, and have my eyes set on the Yamaha Super Flighter series of electric guitars from the late '70s. Having bought a couple of the models already, I'm hooked!

If anyone has any of them in good condition then please drop me a message, although I may not be in a position to buy right away, I'll be interested to see what deal we could make. I'm particularly looking for the SF1000 in natural ("blonde") or any SF700, but any of them in good condition will be of interest.

This is a standing add, not limited to the time it was posted, so if someone's reading this in a few years it might well be worth dropping me a message anyway.

Either message me on here, or email me.. liamthomas93@gmail.com

Welcome to the forum, gw93.

Here is a friendly hint from a fellow Brit. Unless you translate your monetary offers into US Dollars, you are addressing roughly two dozen UK punters. A few of them are in music retail.

I am old enough to remember the Yamaha SF series when it was new. Nicely made guitars. Uninspiring pickups. If you are into old Yamahas, I have a YSG but it is fairly beaten up and modified.

Ah OK, didn't realise Brits would be so outnumbered on here! I'm posting similar adds on a bunch of forums, thought I'd join SD as well for good measure :)

I've found the pickups to be really nice, but then again I've not had much experience with better pickups like actual Seymours, the best I've had are Duncan Designed! I'd add some to my Super Flighters, but don't want to change the wiring etc, prefer to keep them as original as I can :)

Hi

Are you still looking for Yamaha Super Flighter guitars? I have a few and planning to sell a couple. Very well made guitars. I actually quite like the sound from the pickups but then I'm more of a bass player and rarely play guitar in a live band situation. I think one of my SF700s had a SD pickup replacement by the bridge. Can't understand why they're not more sought after. Way better made than the couple of Gibsons I've owned !

Doggsy,

I got that model of SF1000 shortly after posting this thread, and have put some money into having it re-fretted and otherwise set-up so I'm not looking for another any time soon. eBay would be your best bet I think, the last one went for £450 but some have gone as high as £800 in the last 2 years, but those were mint condition with case..

On that note, I'm still looking for the Persimmon Red SF700! Only really interested if it comes with the case, and has to be good condition to fit my collection!

---UPDATE JULY 2014---

I've now completed my collection! There are however a few things I'm keeping an eye out for to make this collection as close to perfect as possible..

- 1x Super Flighter hard case (I'm missing one, and would love to have one for each guitar)

- 1x SF500 in Ivory White, near mint condition (Mine has a number of minor chips that are too difficult to colour match in order to cover up, would love a clean one!)

- 1x SF1000 in Oil Stain, near mint condition (Mine is pretty good condition, but I've had refretted and want to keep as my gigging guitar, I'd like a better condition one to keep for my collective purposes)

If anyone has any of these, please get in touch and I'll see what my financial situation is at the time! Thanks to everyone who's already emailed me from this forum and helped fill up my collection!

Cheers, Liam

Re: WTB: Yamaha Super Flighter

I recently bought a SF 1200 guitar with case, the owner had already replaced the tuning machines with a cheaper ones. The fret board needs re-fretting with minor dinges in the body. The neck of this guitar is in great shape and looks good.
