The invader has balls plenty, it's just that it's VERY loose and grainy on the lower notes. I'd definitely use the 6 string version but it's just a little bit dark to be used in a mahogany 7 string.
I don't want to trade it, but the D-activator is KILLER. my goal was to bright things up on my Carvin DC727 and it works amazingly (after the stock pup and a crunchlab.

it'll depend heavily on the guitar in question; either really good or really bad heh heh
talk to petrovsk if you haven't already, he may be able to help you
EDIT - or change in some dimarzio-sized hex screws, you can get them on ebay
I've heard about the de-mud mod for the invader and changing out the huge iron hex caps but I think maybe going something lower output and clearer or even active would be a better choice.
I have an invader in the bridge and a super distortion in the neck of my ibanez xiphos and last night I did the hex change. I swapped the large hex poles for the smaller ones from the super distortion. I demo'd it after each string set of poles were changed. The large poles give it a bit more balls and just sounds bigger while the small hex sounds smaller and more like any other pickup. The small hex did make it tighter but it wasn't a huge improvement. I switched them all back to original and decided I'd rather have an invader the way it's meant to be and buy something else if I want super tight.
