WTT laptop memory

Just Ultimate Slacker
I have (2) sticks of 1G DDR2-667 laptop RAM
I need (2) sticks of 1G DDR2-533 laptop RAM
I would also consider trades for / toward a Wah, or a marshall style box (plexitone, crunch box, ocd etc) 1x12 cabs, or anything else guitar related.

Re: WTT laptop memory

667 ram should work in 533 sockets as long as they are both DDR2, no? In any event I have 2 1ghz 533 SODIMM (laptop) chips, but let me check I may have already sold them but forgot.

Re: WTT laptop memory

I thought so too, but it wont downclock unless I have a 533 in one slot and a 667 in the other. So I cant use both chips.

Re: WTT laptop memory

Strange, I thought the memory speed is regulated by the slowest speed chip installed. WHat brand laptop is it? I know HP/Compaq work this way.

Re: WTT laptop memory

I did just check I only have 2 512mb DDR2 chips in the 533 speed.

I do have the 2 Crucial 1gb 667 chips though and paired they should work since they are matched even if your laptop runs at 533 max.

My Compaq runs at 533 and I have had the 667's installed for at least 6 months and no problems. I think my 2 OCZ Dual Channel 2gb chips installed now might even be 800? (866) mhz and it runs fine in XP Pro and Vista.

It is. If I install a 533 and a 667 they both run at 533 and it sees both.

With both 667 it wont even get to the bios though.

Re: WTT laptop memory

What if you borrow some 533 sticks and boot with that and adjust your clocks. Then put 667 back in? I doubt the bios in a laptop is capable of this but its worth a try.
