what would you do?

i gotta buddy who's selling an ESP ... NOT LTD.... ESP eclipse. the older thinner model with the floyd. i think its a bolt on neck.. not sure. 81/85.

sorta like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1990s-ESP-Eclip...s-/120623758891?pt=Guitar&hash=item1c15bc7e2b

my friend (not the ebay add) said he'll sell it to me for 550. heres the thing. i know what i want. its not really that. but that is a STEAL!! ive never had a floyded guitar. i generally dont like the feel of LP's. on the other hand - this guitar came for the same shop my boogie came from. and i used that same guitar to test my boogie and remember thinking it sounded AMAZZZZZING. or do i hold out for either the Gibson V, or Matt Tuck Jackson RR sig?

so again, i ask... what would you do?

Re: wwYd?

Wait. If it's not what you want or like you're gonna be sorry.

Re: wwYd?

yeah

nothing wrong with buying gear cheap and selling it high

earlier this year i got a PRS CE22 for about $400 and a 79 Gibson Marauder for $250...more than doubled that selling them and bought the Les Paul of my dreams :smokin:

Re: wwYd?

is it wrong to "flip" a friend - for lack of a better term. he said he'd offer it to me so low because he wants to see somebody appreciate it, enjoy it, etc...

plus i know the guy pretty well, see him pretty often. i'd hate to one day have him be like so hows the guitar? oh....i sold it.

Re: wwYd?

You should try it though, you might really like it, that's a song for an awesome guitar. I waffled on one of those back then that had an ash body with a flamed top in natural finish, I regret getting the KH1 instead to this day.

Re: wwYd?

Like many things in life, your friend's ESP guitar is only a bargain if you want it.

Ask whether he would be offended if, in the future, you decided that the guitar did not suit you and you wished to sell it.

Re: wwYd?

Let him pawn it to you, if he misses it sell it back, if you like it keep it, if you don't like and he doesn't miss it, sell it.

Re: wwYd?

You said it sounds amazing.. buy it and see if it grows on you.. if you cant satisfy the itch, then sell it.

Re: wwYd?

I played one of those but with a stop-tail...that was before LTD started making the eclipses... phenomenal guitar. I loved it to death but came too late to buy it...was gone.

For that price I'd say play it, buy it and flip it if you end-up not playing it... if you have the extra cash on-hand of course.

Re: wwYd?

Ask him to borrow it for a week and play it through your setup. And I mean really ****ing play it. If you like it, if it feels right and if it gets sounds you're really into that you can't get from your current guitars then buy it. That's a sweet price and worth it.

If you don't like it then don't buy it. He's being a good friend, don't take advantage of that by ripping him off.

If you're still on the fence then buy it but give him first dibs on getting it back at the same price if you get sick of it before you sell it on for a better price. That way no one really loses.

Re: wwYd?

if you think your friend might have a problem with you selling the guitar, you diffuse the situation by offering it back to him first.

"Hey man, this guitar isn't working out for me, do you want to undo the deal?"

If he gives you back what you paid for it, you borrowed a guitar for a while. If he doesn't want to buy it back, it's yours to do what you want with it.

Re: wwYd?

Let it be if it isn't for you. Took me a long time to sell my Eclipse, he's probably having the same problem. You might flip it for more but it could take a while.

LTD has to be among the worst decisions ever made, ruined ESP's reputation. The early Korean made LTD's weren't bad, I own a couple, but I don't think many people realize that you won't find many guitars better than a Jap ESP. It's shocking to me that someone would have trouble selling one.
