Xmas break means a bit more time (so actually time) to build. Got another one on the bench, waiting for paint to dry fully, then labels and clear coats...
In the meanwhile, here's the first one: MXR M173 Classic 108 fuzz without the fancy buffer... That way, it's pretty much a fuzzface built around BC 108 Si transistors.
I used BC108Bs instead of BC108Cs (didn't have "C"s stashed around). It gives it a "spongier" tone to my ears. Nice and a bit more vintage in my mind...softer. It's therefore a bit warmer than the original as well.
I've tried BC109s and MPSA18 but I preferred the smoother attack of the 108s.
The enclosure was painted red, oversprayed with a mist of yellow, taped and then painted dark blue. Removed the tape and voilà... I make the tape a bit less sticky in order to avoid pulling off the previous coats of paint. I may have overdone it a bit and there was some paint that got under the tape in some places... Looks a bit less clean. Nice accident since I like it like that. Don't mind the gap between the back plate and the body in the last pic, it's not screwed tight since I'm waiting a couple more days to avoid the clear coats sticking together...
Oh yeah: red led on this one.
No gut shots... sorry.
Hope you guys like it.
