Xotic EP booster

anyone try it yet? overall i'm really interested in the Xotic effects pedals, and this one in particular, I'm starting to use quite a few pedals and eventually think i'm gonna need to get something to put at the beginning of my chain.
thoughts on it?

Re: Xotic EP booster

I did try one. My rating: "very good". Good volume sweep as the control is turned up. A little harsh in the treble frequencies once the volume was past 12 o'clock, otherwise I would have rated it "great". It is also quite small and narrow. It might roll accidentally when stepping on it if it weren't for the patches plugged into each side.

Re: Xotic EP booster

It sounds like you are interestind in something like a buffer, the EP boost is based on the FET preamp from an EP3 echoplex...not really the best buffer out there...

TGWIF, essentialy yes. And right now I'm kinda just gazing around trying to learn as much as possible. Right now I don't have that issue of running too many cables but i could see the potential need for one in the future

Re: Xotic EP booster

Well...for buffers the VHT is tops IMO but the Axess BS-2 is great as well and is a lot less cash.

Also, the MI Audio Buff -n- Boost seems to get a lot of good reviews.

The ZVEX SHO makes a GREAT buffer as well as boost pedal and also has 2 outputs. Also, the ZVEX Super Duper 2 in 1 is nice bnecasue you can set one side up as a buffer and the other side as a boost.

There is the HBE stuff as well...the Uno Mos and the Dos Mos, both make great buffers and boosters.

All this said don't buy a buffer just because some fool on some web forum said you need one...

Plug into your rig and play clean, with all the pedals bypassed, then unplug and plug STRAIGHT into your amp and play clean...if that sounds better to you than going through all your pedals when they are all off THEN look at a buffer.

Re: Xotic EP booster

how do fuzz pedals respond to them, like the EP booster or the SHO? unless i'm confusing terms together?

It all depends on the fuzz pedal in question plus if you run the buffer/booster before or after the fuzz...there are too many situations to play out on a forum...best bet is to just buy some pedal's and see how they work together.

Re: Xotic EP booster

True. I should have about 3 ft of cable on my board, plus a boss pedal with the buffered output, plus 2 20 ft of cable from guitar to pedals and pedals to amp. Guess the ear is the important thing, if it sounds good don't fix it
