Alright, my band was going to record today, but the drummer got sick, so I had some fun for you guys! I tried to play almost the same riffs with both guitars, and sampled all three channels.
I have the cleans set up clean, and had the neck bucker on the Jackson split some of the time for the cleans. Schecter cleans were 100% Jazz.
The Ultra channel is set for medium gain, could be considered high gain by some. I used both pickups on both guitars for this, with the Jackson's neck split about 1/2 of the time.
The Crunch channel is my main highgain channel, and both clips used both pickups.
I plug straight in, the fx loop running through a Boss NS-2, Behringer V-amp for reverb, and then into the Boss EQ, which I have set nuetral on almost everything, but I cut the lowest 2 frequencies by a bit, and boost the highs and high mids, while lowering the highs on the amp, to get the right crunch sound with enough high's. Active EQ's are both a blessing and a curse!
Before you listen and say to yourself "This sounds like total crap," keep in mind my recording setup. The mic was a cheap Nady MP-5, that I got in a 3 pack for 20 bucks off MusiciansFriend, for vocals at band practice. Ran that through a 2 channel Behringer mixer set flat, and into a Creative USB soundcard. The software was Cool Edit Pro 2.0, and I'm actually quite happy with the results. I didn't play with mic positions at all, and I think it came out a little high-endy, and maybe a bit too much in the mids section, depending on the PC speakers used.
Comments/criticism on both playing and tone are well appreciated, although I'm quite pleased with my tone as it is. Everything was one take.
Listening to them again right now, they sound super dry. Still cool, but dry.
