Yamaha AES920???(PIC)

Have any of you got any experience with a Yamaha AES920? I played an AES620 yesterday and it was pretty nice for $500. The 920 is a pretty big price jump to $1500. It looks really nice, but I'm not sure what I think of it yet.

I don't know personally sorry Skull, but in seeing a lot of pretty guitars, thats one of the prettiest guitars ever :drool:

I like the 620's alot. Yamaha necks are A+++. But although that is a beautiful pic, I am not sure I would pay it for that, probably a heritage LP. Sorry, I don't ahve experience with that guitar.

I have played the $500 model in stores that had a Seymour Duncan pick-up and thought it was a good value. Although, I think it's made in Korea and I prefer the Yamahas from Taiwan. Haven't seen many Yamahas from Japan recently, but that would be even better. Yamaha actually makes some great guitars. I notice that Yamaha guitars go on sale, so I would look for that to go on sale after Christmas, unless it's a new model. Stores usually blow Yamahas out. I would pay about $900 new for a Yamaha that was originally priced at $1,500.

i wouldn't pay $1500 for any yamaha..... i think they are all made in taiwan. They make a quality instrument but i have no idea how they come up with their pricing.

my yamaha RGX820z lists for $1300 or so and I got it for $300 new. They seem to discontinue models pretty regular and you can pick them up pretty cheap then.

Thanks guys. The more and more I look at the guitar, I dont think I could bring myself to pay $1500 for it. Other than a nicer top (and better wood I think) on the 920 there isnt much of a difference between it and the 620. Surely not enough to justify that big of a price hike.

I've picked up the AES620 and was pleasantly surprised. I'm assuming the best deal would be to snipe one on Ebay, then take it to a tech and pay him $60 to dress the frets real nice and add a bone nut. Then, you'll have the same quality as the 920 for about $450 total. Yamahas have bad resale, so a used one is a steal.

I've played a cheaper one, and it was a very nice guitar. But for that price, you could get a very nice s/h PRS McCarty. That Yamaha will not hold it's value.

I think the guy in Finger11 was using a plain black Yamaha of the same shape when I saw them. Through a Bogner. All in all, it added up to a great sound.
