Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

...flat top as opposed to a carved top.

aka strat/tele to lespaul. meaning theres no contour on the body. am i mistaken?

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

They are carved tops, not as much as say a Les Paul i.e not dished,,, but a smooth curve.

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

I just bought a 1983 SBG 3000. Somebody switched out the pick-ups so I'm looking for some originals. Anyone have some to sell? Thanks!

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

thanks for the info! I REALLY like the idea of a thick SG. all the Gibsons are too thin, i feel like I'm going to break it in half every time i play one. Actually, ive been looking for a nice solid body style for my next build. I've got some african mahogany in good shape, and thanks to this topic, ive found my next guitar :) haha im stoked to get this project going.

theyre flat top, correct?

Nope...they're arched.

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

Whilst I do agree they aren't exactly featherweights, I have a couple of mates with maple capped Gibson Customs that make mine and my sons feel quite acceptable.

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

Sold mine along time ago....
Most of that style of guitars are simply just too heavy....
Unless they are old and like in real old....;)

:) Yeah I know what you mean. I spoke to Tim (onwer of BKP here in the UK) who had Pages #1 in and he said it was weighing around 7.5ib now as it's drying out after half a century. Had you kept your old heavy guitars you may have been ok when you are 150 years old! :naughty:

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

And heavy.....
Like in very heavy....

Yup, I lived in Japan for 2 years and lusted for a white 3000 with all the gold and abalone trim that sat in a glass case in the music store I frequented. Years later I got a good deal on a sunburst 2000. I kept it for about 6 months, too damn heavy + it was then I finally realized...I was a Fender guy!

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

Now they'll be going up even more.

My friend had a 3K in the mid 90's that was crusty as hell, I didn't buy it when he sold it for nothing. Wish I had it now.

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

Got my white SBG 3000 in the mail yesterday. Took it apart to check out the pick-ups and lo and behold it has the original pick-ups! They are stamped SG 3000. Big relief because these are incredibly rare.

Great news, I really like the way the original pick ups seemed to have been designed for this guitar. Let's see some pics then Geoff.

Re: Yamaha SG3000 SBG3000

My buddy has one I play from time to time. It has no brass block and sustains better than my LP. It plays awesome but has a few fret issues. Still not bad for a 30 year old guitar.
