Hey all, as you may know, I recently bought a Laney AOR50II tube head. The thing is a freaking metal beast, but didn't come with a footswitch, and I can't find one that works. However, I realized that simply turning my volume down on the Tom Delonge Strat's Invader can actually provide a clean (not pretty, but oh well) tone, so I started using my volume knob as a footswitch, and had an awesome metal rig that worked. By the way, I hate Tom Delonge, but I freaking love that guitar.

However, I have ALWAYS wanted active EMGs ever since I played a Jackson with an 85 in the bridge at GC one day. I bought an 81 once, but ended up selling the damn thing cause I was too lazy to install it by changing pots and crap. SO, today, I picked up a Strat pickguard, loaded with 2 EMG 89s, which is a splittable humbucker w/ Alnico magnets that can essentially change from an EMG SA to an EMG 85 by push-pull knobs, which are included in the assembly! Now, instead of using my volume knob (which was hard because I had to get the volume low enough to be clean without turning "off" the guitar), I can just use one pickup for cleans and then switch to another for distortion!

Active EMGs + Laney tube head = BREWtality

Now I have to figure out what I'm gonna do with the Invader! Maybe I'll see how it sounds in my Squier, lol.

Saggy, do you have a H pickguard by chance?

Yeah, that's what's in my Strat right now that I'm gonna take out when the H-H pickguard w/ EMGs arrives. I may see if it fits into my S-S-S Squier though, just for ****s and giggles.

Find your nearest Laney dealer and order the footswitch. There's no reason you should have a two channel head minus a footswitch??

Cool about the guitar. That "special" pot crap involved with EMG's scares away a lot of people. I think that's why EMG finally realized they have to start offering pre wired guards.

Ahh, you're right. I think what I'll do first is go to some local stores (no Laney dealers 'til at least a couple of hours away from here), buy some generic footswitches, and see if those work. If not, I'll go the Laney route.

Man, I jammed on this monster for hours tonight... the thing freaking rips. I never used to be an EL34, but that has now changed, maybe for good...? :newangel:

yeah, its stopped me from getting EMGs. its not that i cant do it, id be fine, but im a big instant gratification kinda guy, so i want the install to take as little time as possible. damn short patience

The vast majority of foot switches on guitar amps are of the 1/4" jack tip/ground variety. While I always like to get the "right" switch for an amp, you can most likely get by with a generic tip/ground footswitch.
