Yet another ad: Fake or not? (Epiphone Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw)

Re: Yet another ad: Fake or not? (Epiphone Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw)

Got some info on this guy? I'd like to hear from him where he got this piece...

Re: Yet another ad: Fake or not? (Epiphone Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw)

I got that photo from the Epiphone site.. wow.. totally obvious now

I would be wary of trusting website guitar example photographs. Sometimes, a prototype has been used for the catalogue image and the final mass production version is different. (Pre-production Peavey T-60s were badged CT-1 after their principal designer, Chip Todd. Early Fender catalogues show the Broadcaster [crossed out] Telecaster in black at a time when only the Blond finish was offered.)

The buzzsaw finish is obviously sprayed on through a template. I agree with Lucid and Jolly. Who would go so much trouble to refinish a 'fing Epiphone?

It might have helped if the vendor had shown the back of the guitar's neck. Indeed, it would have helped even more if the vendor had included a photo of the entire instrument. We are left to assume that the body and headstock are from the same instrument.

In the UK, there is a class of imported guitar known as a Fibson. Chinese knock-offs that look okay from a distance but which do not bear close scrutiny.

The best way to find out if its a counterfeit is to ring Gibson they will ask for it to be sent to them and they can do it. (UK send to distribution) I had the same problem with a beta 57 shure mic. You kinda know if its fake theres something about them, weigghts wrong etc. But thats what i'd do send it back to Gibson

fake or not... it's an epiphone... whatelse do you expect?

Re: Yet another ad: Fake or not? (Epiphone Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw)

I remember a while back someone on eBay was selling Decals for the buzzsaw so it may be just decals.

Hello again to everyone guys!

As you would notice, the time for me to disturb everyone once again to check the authenticity of another Buzzsaw model came already. Our most recent contestant joins us from UK and has a knob dropped-off. Its owner is a guitarist in a band called Unit Nine and the ad was found on Gumtree.

Here's the link to the pictures that I've received from him yet but I already asked for more:

Thanks once again in advance for all replies!

P.S.: I really hope that this one would not be a fake and that I'd get it in order to stop finally boring everyone again and again with questions about the same model all the time :^)

 Looks good too me my man! the headstock looks right the epi name looks like its in the right spot. buy the thing and love it like you would your wife lol.

This is the best explanation for the body finish.

Check the distance between the TOM and stopbar tailpiece. Fake!

The truss rod cover plate looks genuine. I still reckon that the body and headstock in the vendor's photographs are two different guitars.

Re: Yet another ad: Fake or not? (Epiphone Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw)

I asked him yesterday for more detailed pictures of the neck, the headstock from the back, inside of control cavities etc. I'll be posting them anyway if I ever get them...The weird thing was that it was him who was so helpful and asking me to include any questions or additional picture demands that I might have...
Although I have to reply that the comments claiming that it's a fake managed to convince me for the moment through their arguments :(

Yowza! On the default blue forum background, that dark red text is bad for the eyes. :eyecrazy:

JaySwear,

Is this picture that you gave the link for from another ad? If so, I'd like to get additional information ;)

Nope. Not yet at least. I asked him for additional pictures yesterday and I was thinking of asking these inevitable questions about the reason for selling, where and for how much he bought it for etc. if the pictures pass the test and indicate any genre of authenticity (which is not the case until now :dot:)

Re: Yet another ad: Fake or not? (Epiphone Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw)

+1

Also, is it just me...or is the head stock lop-sided?

I noticed that too but didn't want anyone to think I was a nut job lol.

EDIT: Also the stopbar and tailpeice look off, maybe they are too spread apart....????

EDIT: Ahhh Funkfingers!

I did a litle copy and paste for a quick side by side comparison.

aepi-1-1.jpg

It's a fake.

there are loads of differences in these two, most have all been said. one's red and one's orange for starters. the bridge is closer to the pickup in the "fake" one and like a few people have said the distance between the tailpiece and bridge are way off. also the knobs dont look like they are the right distance apart/correct position. the paint job doesn't match up at all..... its gotta be a fake. try and get more pics.

Re: Yet another ad: Fake or not? (Epiphone Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw)

Check this link of a Fake Zakk Wylde Buzzsaw.. it took me less than 20 seconds to Google it.. and the grfx look just like "fake Epiphone" mentioned in the OP.. the space between the bridge and tail piece looks off.. and what's worse.. is this one is being passed off as a Gibson.. the webpage offers more interesting inf0.. It's very possible that the ad in question is an Epi neck bolted onto a Chinese Kit body, and a vinyl sticker.. that's not alot of trouble to go thru, to make a 400% profit..

I wouldn't touch it anyway, who would spend 8 or 900 bucks for an Epi anyway..?
save your money

Again, there's a serious profit in it! If it's made cheaply enough you can still get a bunch out of it. There's more sense in making a fake Epiphone than a fake Gibson. The people buying limited edition Gibsons will know what to look for in a real Gibson, and what would be fake. The customers who are shopping for Epiphones most likely won't know or not bother to check. Would you rather have a fake Gibson that never sold because people knew it was a fake, or an Epiphone that got you a few hundred without too much problem?

I wonder how many guys are playing couterfeit guitars and don't know it.
