Yet another Behringer question.

My guess is that they think you might buy many pedals at once? What makes less sense is companies charging 10x as much for the same circuit.

Behringer is operating on a different model from most other companies. They aren't buying parts from OEMs. They built a massive factory in China (look up Music Tribe City) where they make all of their own parts, and according to what I've heard on pedal shows, they're also a major parts supplier for other pedal builders.

I have bought a lot of Chinese no name clones off Ali Express and most have been a great value and competitive with those costing 4X more.

I was going to say that it looks like a loss leader. You see that pedal and then look for whatever other deals they have. The phaser goes at cost and they make a margin on the other pedals.

Reminds me of their Muff Clone in terms of aesthetics

Yeah it does, a bit. One of the other cool things about this pedal is if it sucks, you can just rip the electronics out of it and you have a nice sturdy metal case, complete with jacks and footswitch, for another project. Since it has free shipping, I don't think you could buy those parts for $22.

That one takes up quite a bit of board space though, i doubt the pcb within it even utilizes that much space.:33:

I doubt it does, too, but it does have that retro look, and sometimes that's all people need for their board.

I'm pretty sure the target audience for a $22 is not going to be the type of person to worry about having too small a pedal board.

I will definitely be buying it for the enclosure. My Phase 90 Univibe project utilizes a single board and a switch.

Sweetwater is going to be kicking themselves. "Why the heck are we getting like a thousand orders for these thangs?"

No they won;t. They have had them on the board at a different price and they didn't;t move. Like Bruce said - they cover their cost, and certain percentage buy some other stuff.

Simply collecting your email address and contact information is valuable to both Behringer and Sweetwater, especially if you’ve never purchased anything from either brand before. I’m too lazy to check, but if this pedal is only at that price on Sweetwater, it could be part of a marketing deal between the two companies. The arrangement might be: “We’ll let you sell the pedal at cost, and in return, you give our products premium placement at the top of your pages for the next 60 days.”
