Yet another - Jeff Beck tone?

That isn't, by any chance, McCartney's "Blackbird", is it? (If so, I'm halfway there, already.) ;)
uh ... not hardly, Artie

you didn't think it was gonna be that easy, did you? :)

I think, bottom line, JB just has a very creative mind. Although he's known for a certain style (well, a couple styles), in the PBS Blues segment he was in, he was doing nice jazz comping on a fat Gibson. Then on "Crazy Legs", he cops all of Cliff Gallup's Rockabilly licks. And his arrangement of "Greensleaves" on "Truth" was great, but true to the original, too.

very multi-dimensional player

Actually, I'm relieved to hear that.

That song has been so overdone. ;)

Only five albums!! Bloody hell - er - I know we are not supposed to hijack threads but you haven't converted them to mp3 by any chance?????????
I'll be doing it some time in the near future anyway, so why not tomorrow? :D

Artie: You have to get the regular AIM client! That way you can get all the Beck albums! Blackbird is a duel between Jeff Beck and, you guessed it, a Blackbird.

Re: Yet another - Jeff Beck tone?

Hey msplines, if you contact me on AIM then you can download the Savoy Brown CDs from me :)

That goes for anyone here too. If anybody wants some music, just ask and I might have it.

Re: Yet another - Jeff Beck tone?

Not really on subject...but one of my favorite quotations about Beck is from Guitar Player in which they stated...

"Even though guitar playing is not a competition - Jeff Beck is better than everyone."

:) Gotta love it! It was in the 50 Greatest Guitar Tones issue.

He recorded "Angel" with a TELECASTER and a slide. he used one of his Twin amps, and the engineer added SERIOUS compression and lush long lexicon reverb from the board. Played with fingers of course, no pick

-I just tried an approximation of this setup, and you can get close.

Playing fingerstyle with my tele (bridge pickup with the tone rolled down), a compressor inline and a slide did get fairly close to the sound on that song.

Xavier, how did you get such a detailed rundown on the equipment used?
