Yet another John Petrucci signature pickup announced

Re: Yet another John Petrucci signature pickup announced

Fun fact, Jake Bowen, one of the guitarists in Periphery, is John Petrucci's nephew (by marriage I believe). But I disagree about Spencer Sotelo's vocals. James Labrie's vocals are meh at best, but Spencer's have gotten better with every album in my opinion.

I don't get associating Periphery and Dream Theater, aside from the nephew/ uncle thing. They're worlds apart. For better or worse, I think I'm too old to appreciate djent. I've never listened to Periphery beyond the first album, but the fact that they put out an instrumental version says a lot.

Does he still sound like an emo boy band singer?

I never understood the comparisons either. P1 was definitely Spencer's weakest album.

His voice has gotten a bit deeper, but still pretty high pitched. His screaming is where he really improved though.

I'd really like to try these, but the expensive covered-version $140/ea is still mandatory, even through top dealers,,,,,,,,,,so no thanks for now.
I guess in the right single-pup guitar that's not so terrible, but in anything else you'd have to get the set just to look right,,,,,so $280
Even in a single-bucker you'd still have to have something like a Cooley for it to look "right",IMO.
