YJM Rising Force Studio Rig

I've searched here and on the web, and I can't find it. I am intrested what he used in the studio on his very first album. The entire signal path. I am not looking to cop his tone, I want to know how he did it, cause I use my neck single coil for "violin sound" also any signal paths of Uli Roth of any era would be greatly appriciated.

Re: YJM Rising Force Studio Rig

I'm pretty sure he used his white maple-neck strat (big headstock) with the stock pickups running into one of his 70-71 50W Marshall JMP metalfronts cranked loud for all the gain. I remember him saying he didn't care for recording with OD pedals. Not sure what speakers he had back then.

Re: YJM Rising Force Studio Rig

I'll second what GJ said except for the pickups. As long as I can remember he'd always been using DiMarzio HS-3's. Later DiMarzio began to associate that pickup with Yngwie, then even later they tweaked it and renamed it the YJM.

Re: YJM Rising Force Studio Rig

How about modulation effects, choruses, delays, verbs, any noisegates back then? or was it all added after on the board?

Re: YJM Rising Force Studio Rig

There was a detailed explanation of his rig on his old website.

I'm pretty sure his first two albums were recorded with stock Fender pickups. A BIG part of that early Yngwie sound is his speakers -- that is, he was still using Greenbacks.

Re: YJM Rising Force Studio Rig

50w marshalls, stock, greenback 4x12, DOD 250 and HS-3's.

any reverb was added at the board.

Hmm .... i was under impression those were V30s ... How about his Eclipse album what set up did he have there, and especially what speakers?

Re: YJM Rising Force Studio Rig

i don't know what the guy was using in rising force, but i play a few RF songs with a custom custom and emg 81. i recorded black star with the emg 81 and it sounded spectacular. i would love to hear malmsteen play with some emg sa pups. that would be awesome because i think they have a similar tone in a way.

Re: YJM Rising Force Studio Rig

Malmsteen doesn't use Vintage 30's, though his website said he did for a time. His tech was quoted somewhere as saying his speakers were 70 watts. Was there ever a Lead 70 to anyones knowledge? He currently does endorse '75s for what it's worth.

The HS-3 was out in 1980 and he has said many times that he worked with DiMarzio on it as the HS-1 was not exactly what he wanted. He could have been using them in the studio, but who knows? The YJM was created b/c he wanted staggered polepieces and a slightly brighter tone than the neck.

He was using the same amps then as he's using now; he picked most of them up in Sweden when others sold the NMV to pick up MV amps when they came out (I think that was on the Marshall website).

I trust GJ's knowledge; YJM has said his setup hasn't changed much since the early days, which included a DOD 250, but I don't know if that was only in his live setup or not. YJM has said in the past that he's even overdriven the signal at the board.

The V30 wasn't around when his first album came out. V30's would have been available first in about 86 or 87. The Marshall Vintage version of the V30 is rated at 70 watts.

There was a 70 watt Celestion in the early 80's called the G12M70 Modern Lead, but it was probably the most disliked of all Celestions. If you don't like the 75's, you really won't like the G12M70's.
