will yellow jackets get me in the area of an amp that started out with el84's. i'm thinking like to a vox (ac30cc1) area from a boogie nomad 100. i'm thinking i'm going to put them in the middle 2 positions and run it on 50 (only the middle 2 on). and then switch to 100 when needed (if i want a different sound that is).

thanks
-marc

edit: i'm using a marshall 4x12 cab loaded with g12-75h speakers

Re: yj's??

Yellow Jackets convert an octal based tube(8 pins like an EL34 or 6L6) to 9-pin.........not 9-pin to 9-pin.

i know, i am currently running 6l6s in the nomad and want to try out some el84s. in this thread i'm asking if it will get close to a vox-ish sound with 2 in the middle with the 50 watt setting on. on the 50 watt setting on my amp only the 2 inside tubes are on. so it would be running nothing but el84s on the setting i want it on.

Re: yj's??

i can't tell you about yj's, but i use a set of 'tad tonebone pentode' in
my engl jive. the amp has a fixed bias and anyway a loud voice.
i got the tonebones used for 40eur and plugged in a pair of sovtek el84
(to keep the engl character ;)) - i am very satisfied with this setup.

before i have chosen the conversion sockets, i googled a lot for specs
reviews and such - i was very sceptical of those converters in general.
i've read a german forum, where sombody reviewed the sockets.
he described the tads as flawless and had some intermittend noise problem
with the yellowjackets. this is why i have chosen the tads for me.

AAhhh, I'm sorry....I misunderstood your original post.

I'm not sure if that will work, but if you shoot Ed DeGenero w/THD a message, he's ALWAYS on line & very helpful.
