Y'know, maybe I'm being a bit hard on the Marshall MG range...

Re: Y'know, maybe I'm being a bit hard on the Marshall MG range...

I just played my MG30..I love the clean..and if you´re on 1/4 gain and use your volume poti on your axe it doesn´t sound that bad.

I love the distortion for rythm stuff though!

Most amps can get usable tones. The Marshall MG 15 is among them (I owned one for a while). If you think of amps as utilitarian tools, then commodity tools are reasonable hammers. If you're looking for something that'll inspire you, your search got a lot harder (but more interesting, IMO).

Glad you came around!

not-so-proud owner of an MG100HDFX. Going to sell it. But hey, it has done a great job to my band's progression. However, it's place is going to be taken by an AC30 TB, which arrives any day now :13:

See, I don't... for lead, it's pretty cool, but I look for a crunch sound in my rhythm playing, and this thing just sound so fizzy and cheap. That's the main reason I bought my v-amp. Still, each to his own!

Re: Y'know, maybe I'm being a bit hard on the Marshall MG range...

Never owned a Marshall. Someone's still going to have to give me one for free. I don't think I'll buy a Marshall new.

Re: Y'know, maybe I'm being a bit hard on the Marshall MG range...

i've got a MG100cdr head and i've been able to get some good (definatly not great) tones out of it. Alot of people who've played through my rig like it alot too, i've had it for about 3 years now and i guess i've just found the 'sweet' spots on some of the knobs. Of course i'd rather have a tube head, but my Hughes and Kettner combo does the job until i can get one.

It's awful expensive to be used just as a backup. Thats my main thing with marshalls. PRICE.

In the UK everything is expensive, and the marshalls are not too badley priced competition wise, besides, mine was an absolute steal second hand.

Re: Y'know, maybe I'm being a bit hard on the Marshall MG range...

Well, if you could find one used, I'm sure it would be an excellent backup amp. Here in the USA they outprice anything in their range by $100+

Re: Y'know, maybe I'm being a bit hard on the Marshall MG range...

marshall are wicked at valve amps. yes, all valve heads. im talking JTMs, JCM 600, 800, and some of the 2000 stuff. JCM 900s and valvestate are nice (i love the 900 when it's in the right music)

but the MG series... if it aint got glass, it isnt a marshall :)

Oh haha I just thought of something which is hilarious. My friend kept complaining about how his distortion channel on his amp was busted, turns out it was working fine but was just crap ahaha.

Re: Y'know, maybe I'm being a bit hard on the Marshall MG range...

Well prices for marshall in britain compared to other amps are good, so they are a lot more apealing here.

i could almost afford 3 Marshall TSL100 heads for the price of a Mesa Tripple Rectifier.
