Ok ive got one roughly one grand for a new axe...everyone said USED AMERICAN JACKSON.

A friend (chileanguy) gave me an idea of what to look for, but now i ask you (and others) WHICH JACKSON!? :smack:

its GONNA be a jackson. im sold. but...which one?

and if i cant find a used one, which new ones are good?

thank you for your time, Jackson GAS  and Jackson wisdom:smokin:

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

Do you want dual buckers, or H/S/S? Floyd or hardtail? Neck thru or bolt on? There are tons of good choices, and I'm looking for one myself. Most of the nice neck thru's end up going for $1200-$1800 depending on the paint job. You can get black for the most reasonable price if you watch them close.

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

**** single coils

lol

i guess it would be: HH Floyd...it doesnt matter so much if its bolt on or neck through body, but neck through would be cool.

its not that important. some of you might disagree, but IMO the neck joint doesnt make a HUGE difference in tone.

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

HH and floyd + 1,000 =

used sl2h soloist or a dk-1 dinky

You'll still have to do a little shopping for that price though and you may have to satisfice on color and a little playing wear. You're more likely to find a dk-1 in your range than a soloist. As jeff said, something like a good used soloist is going to typically run a little over a grand.

These guys have the BEST prices on a few lines of guitar (they only stock Gretsch, Jackson, Benedetto and Guild). Call them up and they will give you a deal. I got a Gretsch acoustic from them (great guitar) and I love it. Great guys too, their business is catching on.

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

if you don't mind the neck joint ,a DK-1 is the one for you.You can get them between 900-1200 without a problem!

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

I don't know if you sold strictly on the USA Jacksons.

But another consideration for Soloists is
the early 90s Soloist Professional.
Or even Charvel 650xl. Though that'll be S/S/H.

Those you can find in your price range or less.
They are considered the peak of the MIJ era Jacksons.
Very respected guitars.

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

well, it doesnt have to be an american model.

although i am a little pissed off at this: 900 dollar guitars with LICENSED floyds?

what the ****?

jackson owners-What are the best qualities?

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

USA Jacksons all have the OFR as far as I know, man.

It's the japanese models that bring the Jackson licensed trem, which I'm not too fond of, to be honest.

It doesn't have to be a USA Jackson, but I'm sure it's your best bet. Although like Kherman said (and trust me, he knows his stuff) old Charvels are a sweet deal too.

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

well.. if you're getting a quote of 900$ for a jackson, you're at the wrong dealer.

the only guitars that could have that price are the RR5 and the SL3.
the rhoads is a string through and the SL3 has an original floyd.

though, at what finish are you looking at?
CALL one of these guys
scott at Vwall guitars,
matt from mattsmusic
matt (i think.. ) from onlinestagegear
name i cant reacall off the top of my head @ fullers vintage guitars.. though they stock more custom shop pieces than they do imports

Re: Yo Zerb!!!

Just being of Jackson quality is enough. After that it's up to the player. I own two USA Jackson's and a MIK Jackson- you'd think I'd get rid of the MIK but for a non-USA it easily holds it's own... I'd even put the MIK against any comparable MI? in build quality.

You must be looking at the import soloist, or old import soloist I should say. The new SL3's have a floyd.

Dude, no offense, but if that's true, a grand is way too much for you to be spending. If the different neck joints don't seem to make that much difference, none of the other stuff you're paying extra for will, either.

Well, if you give me at least a rudimentary idea of what you´re looking for, maybe I can provide more help than "Any one you can afford that happens to cross your path" :laugh2:

*Edit*

H-H + FLoyd.... that would leave us with the SL-2H, DK-1, RR-1 , KV-2, KE-2, WR-1..... essentially everything but the SL-1 or the hardtail variants.... at least as far as new ones go.

Of those I´d go with the SL-2H or RR-1, but that´s because I´m not a fan of the Kelly or KV shapes, nor of 24 fret bolt ons.

I have to disagree, www.mattsmusic.com is IMO the place for jacksons.... I´ve not seen a price he hasn´t beaten so far and raised by better service, including the "lower than MAP" offers from other dealers. ;)

And anyone paying 900$US for a new jackson is getting
a. shafted / Gouged
b. a rare USA factory second that for some reason wasn´t returned for retooling
c. the deal of their lives on a USA

And I don´t know where these people are seeing used jackson soloists in the 1200$ range, because they´re not on eBay... it´s very VERY rare for a standard soloist to go for above 1k used, regardless of color. If of course you´re looking at San Dimas soloists, well these have an extra 20 years of Mojo, that always costs extra :D

also, +1 to kherman´s post.... fine guitars that can be had for really cheap prices if you look hard enough ;)

....MIK Jackson-

Cool, which one?

you'd think I'd get rid of the MIK but for a non-USA it easily holds it's own.......

Interesting statement... the only guitars Jackson/Charvel ever manufactured in Korea were the PS-1 thru PS-7 Performers. THe first 2 years they were still MIJ, then production of this series was moved to Korea and 2 years later the series AND Production facility were axed because of massive quality issues.... These are generally regarded as the worst guitars JCMI ever produced, possibly some of the worst ever by a US based company... :eek13:

You must be looking at the import soloist, or old import soloist I should say. The new SL3's have a floyd.

This isn´t entirely correct. THe FR on the New SL-3 is the PING version, which is IIRC MIK (OR MIC, but definitely not by Schaller in Germany). And yes, there is a difference both in tone and in quality. The PING units are good, but will IMO never reach the quality of the Schaller-made units ;)
