I'd keep the old Gretsch with car stereo speakers! LOL

But search Craigslist and Recycler for giveaways. Something like a Bassman LTD would retain that 'old mojo' but have all fresh components and speakers that'll last decades.

My Gibson Goldtone has a vintage look, but it's not vintage, and it's not point to point.
I don't care because the thing sounds really good, and most people that have heard the Goldtones (such as Joe Perry) and compared them to old Gibson amps know the Goldtones sounded better. Plus, it has a boost, reverb, Celestions, and needs no maintenance.

You are not an idiot with bad taste! I don't plan on auditioning or gigging out anytime soon - if ever. Not my scene. I've been on the road, I've been in the recording studio, and at least right now - that's just not for me.

I pigeonhole myself into one era because, like I said, it's about 2 things: coolness, and money. I could buy a Line 6 amp, and it'd be far more versatile than anything I have (although it couldn't touch my Falcon's cleans). But A) I don't need something that versatile and B) if I tried to resell it I wouldn't make money.

I'm in the business of buying low and selling high. You can't buy new stuff low and sell it high with the same success that you can on old stuff. Sure, I could make $1,000 profit on my Duo Jet over what I paid right now, but in general old stuff is just easier to turn. I could probably buy a Line 6 Spider for about $500 if I really tried (the Bogner one). I could probably sell it for $600 if I really tried. That's only 20% profit.

On the other hand, I can turn this Gretsch today for 300-400% profit, buy 3 more amps of the same ilk (most likely Gibsons), and sell all of them. This $200 investment could become $2,000 scarily quick. And that's how I approach guitars/amps. With the exception of my new acoustic and my Melody Maker, I could make money on every single guitar/amp/piece of equipment I own. That's what I aspire to. And it's simply easier to do that with old gear than new gear.

Also, like I said, I'm addicted to old - cool - things. New stuff (cars/amps/guitars in general) just doesn't have it, for me. More power to everyone who buys it, because it is usually the superior product. But like I said, I care about the history and smell and look more than just sounding the best.

That said, I defy you to find a better clean amp for what I paid. Defy you.

So the dude offered me $700 without me asking for it, I could probably talk him up even more. But that's not fair to him, I really have no intentions of selling now. I wish I did! :)

But thanks for talking sense into me guys. No matter how 'bad' it is, this amp is a once in a lifetime piece. I would regret selling it forever.

I got another e-mail from another dude. He offered $750, and I said (longwindedly) 'no thanks.'

Got an e-mail back, $900.

I still think I need to pass but Holy Crap. This needs to stop! I'm tempted to sell this silly amp again!

My goodness. What the hell am I gonna do?
