I know I have posted so many threads on different amps for the past couple of months and I thank you all for helping me out. While I have recently been looking towards tube amps with lower power ratings, like Budda and Matchless, I found a good deal on a Carvin.

Someone was selling a Carvin Legacy half stack for $1,000. I kept my eye on it, or should I say my ear, and it then went down to $900. I just talked the owner down to $825 for the half stack. I am meeting him this week before Friday half way to pick it up.

Mwahahhaha, good deal?

I am feeling the 4x12 may be over kill but I am going to feel it out first. If it is too much, I will either sell it or just pull together the extra money and buy a 2x12 of some sort. It'll be nice to go between 100 and 50 watts as well.

Can't wait!

4 X 12" ...WOW...that is going to move some significant air.

My 4 X 10" is like a wall of sound (musical noise is a better definition, given my playing skills) coming at you. It is almost scary playing through it at times, as I usually use a 1 X12".

ENJOY bro' ...the neighbours cat is in for the migraine of it's lifetime...LOL

Post some pics of your new gear.

I have no neighbors.... :)

I am going to see how the 4x12 works out, I have never played through one. I am pretty sure I am going to get a different cab to mianly play through and gig with, probably a 1x12 now that I think about it. I am an RA at school and I dont think I have room for a 4x12 in a single room, but the chicks would think I was a bad ass rocker... so who knows :)

Wow great deal, i wish i could find one for that price! lol. I think i might wan't to get a legacy, let me know how you like it. As far as getting a smaller cab, if you like the 4x12 it comes with, carvin makes a 2x12 version of it for $400 new, can't beat that price!

I have to have a 4x12.

It's not about volume. It's about the sound. I've played through plenty of 2x12 cabs, nothing comes close to the 4x12- even (especially) at lower volumes.

Virtual: hahaha, I know, But man, it's such a good deal. Even if I hate this rig, I can split it up and make a profit off of it. It's win/win.

I'm going to warn you right here, man. The Legacy is not a dorm room amp or any other kind of quiet amp for that matter. The thing is fricken LOUD. When I don't use my attenuator on mine indoors the thing will start rattling windows with the clean channel on 4. You think I'm joking...

If you're gonna use a Legacy I'd get the 2x12 for your needs and keep it on 50W mode. Once you play yours you'll see what I mean. Does it sound great through a 4x12? Yep it does. Is it a beast in the volume department? Yup.

Play it when you get it and you'll see what I mean.

B2D: oh I know it isnt made for the dorm... I am in the works right now of getting a 2x12, I know the 4x12 is going to be far too much for my needs. I am even thinking about getting a 1x12 instead, who knows.

I also definitely plan on keeping it set on the 50 watt power setting, if it didnt have that feature already there was no way I was going to buy a 100W amp.

remember to put a HELLA rated speaker in a 1x12" to handle all the juice that beast will throw

The 50W setting really doesn't do much in terms of volume, it just kinda makes the amp less punchy at higher volume settings. :laugh2:

The Legacy 2x12 kept under control should be fine... still somewhat loud, but at least more controllable. A head and a 1x12 mght look rather awkward.

That's what I was thinking! I was thinking of this big ass massive, 100W head, with a dinky little 12" speaker just sitting in an egg crate or something. lol

Quite true, that might look a little funny with a 1x12, haha.

Who makes a good vertical 2x12 with V30s...?
