You know you're a guitar geek when...

You get excited when a cardboard box arrives through the post containing two strange glass objects with metal sticking out of the bottom.
These strange glass things are Electroharmonix EL84 for my Mesa. Hopefully these will allow me to get a bit more volume before the bottom end starts to squelch.

Also in the box was a little Red Witch booklet showing all their very funky looking pedals… which I would be quite tempted by if I had just won the lottery :)

Hope the EHX's do what you want 'em to! Please report your findings back.

Will do, although I'm not expecting them to give the amp the voice of the almighty... that said the old valves were getting a tad old and microphonic so there may be a more dramatic improvement.

Anyone in the UK looking for valves/advice as well as a host of boutique pedals and assorted other goodies check out Hotrox in Nottingham. Top chap who really knows his stuff.

I would be more excited with some JJ instead.

I also do like the JJ's, but for this application I needed headroom for which, I have been reliably informed, the ELH's are better.

AND at noon, afternoon, late afternoon, early evening, late evening, midnight, early early morning, early morning, morning.

See, it's a full circle ;)
