you PRS guys (mccarty vs. hollowbody)

hey guys,

i previously played a PRS hollowbody and absolutely fell in love with everything about it, except the price tag haha. but i have a chance to get a solid body mccarty for what i think is a decent price. this is my question; is the hollowbody model the same as the mccarty minus the whole being a hollowbody thing? are they the same guitar? i know im breaking the golden rule of buying a guitar before playing it but its online. what do you guys think?

thanks, peace

the mcarty is a great guitar...but its not the hollowody. if you fell in love with the hollowbody for the way it sounds then you will be disappointed if you get the mcarty. if you love it because it played so nice...then the mcarty should not disappoint. the hollowbody weighs about half as much as the mcarty though if that is a factor.

my gf has a hollowbody and a mcarty (lucky *^&#**(*#$*) and they both play amazing but i would never buy a mcarty having played and loved the sound of the hollowbody so much

If you play more clean, the hollowbody is a good choice. If you use gain or heavy riffing, get the McCarty because the low end is tighter, and the guitar is less airy sounding.

I love the McCarty model, and also like the semi hollow PRS's, but I know the semi hollow rocks a lot less. It's really best for jazzy clean chording or smokey blues.

personally i think the hollowbody rocks a lot...lol. i love that thing with my TS cranked...holy jesus the sweet tones that come out of that thing

Three words:

Used
Hollowbody
Spruce

i have to agree with alec on this. I traded my PRS sprucetop for a solid rosewood neck McCarty and now wish I kept the hollowbody. Play wise they are the same with the wide/fat necks but the hollowbody was just so resonant, i kick myself all the time for doing that trade
