As I predicted....lots of *****ing and moaning and the funding drive is dead not long after I posted it.

Re: You want doublecreams?

Hmmm, this is all interesting. I do not see how a company can legally take a color of bobbins or any other item for that matter. I can understand some brands such as John Deer and such as ALL of there items are the same color scheme. But bobbins?? NO!

Could a way to get around this be to have double creams sold beneath a cover? That way it isn't seen when sold so it would be on the purchaser to remove the cover to show the bobbins?

Saw somewhere within the past day that someone looked under the cover of their new Bonamassa pickup set and found double cream.

I have a double cream Seth bridge that was obviously beneath a cover.

I have at least 3 other double cream by other brands (other than DiMarzio) that have done the same.

They all "sold" covered pickups. Who knows...maybe they had an abundance of cream they needed to move?

Re: You want doublecreams?

Im of the opinion there are no "victims" here. Its a stupid pickup color. People need to get over it, put up, or shut up.

If we won't chip in 20 bucks a piece to fight Larry....well, IMO we lose the right to gripe.

Re: You want doublecreams?

Why have doublecreams when you can have double clears?

Man, if SD offered clears...

Jokes aside, while it's a bit silly to make a fuss out of bobbin colors for pickups, it'd be interesting to know if defying this "trademark" would set precedents to combat other patent abuse cases.

Re: You want doublecreams?

they have that.

some wire is even dyed to match colors we consider to be "accurate": brown for PE, copper for poly, etc.

that'd be a fun project for one of those clear guitars.

Really? I didn't know they made that! I learned something today...

Double cream SH-5 came across my bench this week. 2007 sticker on the label and no signs of a cover ever being on it.

The double creams are out there if you want them and look.

Re: You want doublecreams?

My experience with DM is they indeed replied to my question, even sending me a diagram. One in less than 48 hours. Great customer service. At least I didn't have to shout at the DM forum and wait for response.

I prefer SD pickups; however, my customer service experiences with SD have been terrible (for example paying for a Custom Shop pickup and never heard a word despite exhausting every form of communication) while DMZ answered promptly–a pleasant experience compared to SD.

I disagree with the color trademark BUT I grew up listening to guitarists who 90% of the time were playing Strats–so I don't look at Double Cream and think of a brand. I think it is odd that Gibson used the color for their guitars (pickups, rings, binding, pickguard, etc) and yet DMZ could trademark the color for their pickups.

I like pickups from many companies–I continue to use Duncans despite my bad experiences and I continue to use DiMarzios despite my disagreement with his color trademark.

Re: You want doublecreams?

Is it possible to take apart two zebra humbuckers and combine the cream coils? isnt that how people made the 59custom hybrid? I'm Gona try it with my old epiphone pickups lol

It's possible, but you need a zebra and reverse zebra; otherwise your double cream will have two screw coils while your double black has two slug coils.

It's the internet - people will piss and moan about everything since there's very little consequence to being a pain in the ass. Someone could save all the children from a burning orphanage, and there'll still be pissing an moaning about the person who saved the orphans - then followed by an irrelevant politically charged and/or racist comment as if it has anything to do with the situation (when it doesn't). Usually this is exemplified by YouTube comments and the peanut gallery that comments on LA TImes articles (they're hilariously awful).

Pickup bobbin colors are no exception. People will piss and moan that they can't get pickups that have the color of jaundiced spunk - and if the topic lasts long enough, it'll get political down the path of trademark laws.

I think I must be missing something here.....how does a colour qualify for being stupid?
Can you give me a list of criteria for example. And does it matter what the part is as to whether it being a certain colour makes it stupid or not. As Pepe would say, inquiring minds would like to know.
