Your all-time favorite playing electric guitar?

What is your all-time favorite playing electric guitar? If price were not a consideration which electric would you want that you don't yet own today?
So far, for me it is very close between the Ritchie Blackmore and the David Gilmour...I could live with either of them as my one guitar forever. I think though that as far as playability, the Blackmore has a tiny edge. It is a noticeable difference after playing them for a few days straight and then picking up a standard tele......the Blackmore is just a very smooth playing neck and very easy on the fingers all around.

How do the Gibson's feel in comparison with slightly shorter scales? Is there one Les Paul that stands out as being the most popular feel or easiest on the hands/fingers?

If you've played a guitar or guitars that stand our as being very comfortable please share! Happy Easter!

Every guitar can feel incredibly different. Even amongst seemingly identical spec individuals.

Re: Your all-time favorite playing electric guitar?

My Les Paul or my SG, nothing beats a Gibson, however for shred, it's my Jackson Soloist. I also have a few Strats that are set up just about perfect, and theres something cool about wrangling those strings. One thing ya gotta remember is that you need the great tone of a great guitar to get the response you need to take advantage of any action.

IDK man...well isn't why we pay large sums beyond lesser instruments...for craftsmanship and quality control that would make them more or less about the same? From my expereince, a great Les Paul from the same year sounds and plays about the same as any other.

My personal favorite is the Standard SG. Just bought my second one and I plan on having it in every color. I love the standard les pauls but the sg's hooked me. I'm not sure what it is but they're just perfect for me. I guess everybody has that certain style they tend to gravitate towards anyways.

I'd agree with that mostly but a truely great les paul can be tough to find. Played plenty of CS stuff from them that was "meh". Most consistent awesome players that I've messed with were the high end Ibanez stuff from Japan. Someday I'll go on a quest for a ridiculously nice S series.

Re: Your all-time favorite playing electric guitar?

I love the way my Charvel San Dimas's play.

Re: Your all-time favorite playing electric guitar?

Out of all the guitars I own (currently 15) and all the guitars I've played, I keep coming home to my '85 Westone Spectrum LX. Maybe it's because I'm just so used to it (had it since 1988), but nothing else ever feels quite as comfortable and natural for me.

As for a guitar I'd really like to get (but is way out of my price range), a Gibson Johnny A. Those beauties give me GAS more than anything else!

In my stable, it comes down to my Music Man Reflex - AMAZING - and my PRS S2 Vela.

Well, I am going off my own experience of having about 15-20 different LP shape guitars at the moment, plus the (seemingly hundreds of) threads saying they have tried x amount of LP's and there were one or two that stood out above the rest.
The same with strats.......or Teles. Go to any of these forums that specialise in one type of guitar and the theme is the same. I mean I can understand to a degree with the carved top and the variability of a guitar made up of so many different constructive elements......but a strat/tele with fewer wood elements to make the difference seems to show up what I'm saying to be more of a universal truth.

Re: Your all-time favorite playing electric guitar?

I have 18 G&L Legacy, S-500, Comanche and Legacy Special models. I have them set up as close as I can, but there are a couple that are just super special.

Of the 11 Les Pauls, the two Custom Shop Historic 1960 Tobaccoburst VOS plaintop models I have are my favorites...but one has a just slightly better feel. It is definitely my favorite Paul. Can't measure the difference. The two 1960 Classic Premium Plus guitars and my Elegant have beautiful flame tops, but feel very different, not only from the Historics (and a very different vibe), but necks feel very different from each other. I love them all, but I do have favorites. These would be my top five. Of the others, the Classic Antiques are fun and the sound good, but they are chambered...so lightweight, they feel weird. The Supremes have a unique neck profile, and I've not totally made up my mind about them. The R8 and the R9 have big fat necks that require a mind reboot to be able to play them...we're talking FAT necks. The Tobaccoburst Pauls just fit my hand like a glove.

Again there are variations in the three ES-335s I have. All play well. One has some asymmetry, one is fatter and one has the "Baby Bear" neck that is "just right". And unfortunately, it's the one with the broken neck (now repaired). Got a great deal on it because of the break and it is a wonderful guitar! All are the 1960 Slim Taper profile.

The Martin dreads are all set up with similar action, even though there are different profiles and widths. You can tell that, like Gibson, there's a lot of hand work in shaping these.

I've got a good luthier to work on my guitars...and I'm not afraid to use him! LOL! Especially for nut work. I do set up the G&L vibrato bridges and make truss rod adjustments.

And the one key for me, on ALL my guitars I pay attention to getting the bridge saddles to match the radius of the fretboard. My actions are typically medium to high, but if the radius is correct, they will play smoothly.

Current favorite of all time changes regularly because I am always trying guitars anywhere I travel or am at. Played some incredible Cool factor guitars at Dean in the Artist Room they have. Bought a guitar I played there even. That one was the best for a while. I have also played some sweet guitars in out of the way pawn shops and mom and pop shops. To many I had to walk away from haunt me often.

Current fav is my Shishkov made by Mike Shishkov. http://www.shishkovguitars.com/ Everything about the guitar is quality. The one piece Mahogany body is outstanding looking. The body has a nice "knock" to it. Chambered and light wieght. the top is well mtched. Mike took a photoshop of another equally well built Hamer just to show the color I hoped it would be and delivered to me a guitar that was that guitar. Everything is fit perfectly on it. Unplugged sounds good and plugged, well. :dunno: You have to judge that for yourself one day I hope. :headbang: :cool2:

Fender Eric Johnson signature Stratocaster. Had one for a week and desperately wanted to by it but just couldn't argue myself into the price. Maybe try the pickups someday.

Re: Your all-time favorite playing electric guitar?

For me right now, its my Schecter C7. A nice half way between a Gibson and something like a Jackson. Does the modern metals very well.

Ridiculously nice S series? You don't mean that silver series strat from 70's? My friend has one, and it might be one of the best strats I've played. Though I wouldn't say it's that good I would specifically hunt one...

No an Ibanez S series. It's similar in shape to a Strat, but a little bit thinner bodied and a carved top usually.

Re: Your all-time favorite playing electric guitar?

What guitar I would want that I don't own:

Warmoth strat I've already designed but can't afford yet: chambered maple body, soft-v neck and "pseudo humbucker" design with 4 single coils.

and G&L Comanche...

Jaguar baritone has also been on my "shopping list" if I happen to come across cheap one.
