Your dream rig today

Not an exact signal path, but just what you wanna try really bad lately. Here is mine
A switching system(Hello Mr.Cornish) that will enable me to switch back and fourth between 3 amps that two at a time ran stereo in to one 4X12. My Laney AOR, Laney Supergroup, and a modded Laney for high gain soldanish tone pre-amp. I think I would keep the "mutant" of laney and soldano all the time and switch back and fourth between Supergroup and AOR. Ideally a top quality aged baltic birch plywood cab with 4 V30s. The mutant would be cranked naturally while AOR and Supergroup would have a pallet of drives in fron of them Spina's TS9 of course, BSM treble booster(prolly Blackmore's version) a Baeno boost from analogman. After that I would have some flange FL9 Ibanez, my current chorus - Ibanez CS9, a Foxrox octave (cheers whahwah) with echoplex as the last thing before amps.

Re: Your dream rig today

In my dream world, I would have Pete Cornish design the perfect pedalboard setup for me, complete with power conditioning and regulation and hand tuned tube buffering to keep a "direct" sound through my entire rig.

My pedalboard is pretty basic:

(front loop) Pete Cornish tube buffer (with tuner out to Peterson Strobostomp 2) -> Pro Analog Supaquack -> Analogman KOT V4 -> Lovekraft Mojo Drive -> Clay Jones OD -> out
(fx loop) Radial PB-1 Big Shot -> (insert Magnatone trem clone) -> Eventide Timefactor (w/ MIDI controller)

Guitars (all custom shop here while we're dreaming :D):

Gibson ES-335 w/ dogear P90s - silverburst finish
Gibson SG Special - white
Gibson '59 Les Paul w/ original PAFs
Gibson ES-335 - vintage sunburst
Gibson '54 RI black beauty Les Paul Custom w/ P90/Alnico
Fender '62 Strat - ice blue metallic
Fender '62 Tele - black
JJ Original Shorthorn Doublecut - sunburst

Amps:

Bogner Shiva EL-34 w/ Reverb
Bogner XTC 100B
Bogner 4x12'' cabs w/ Vintage 30s

Re: Your dream rig today

A Languedoc guitar, a Strat, a bunch of overdrive pedals, wah, Rotovibe, delay, some sort of looping device, a Fender Deluxe, and an old Marshall.

Re: Your dream rig today

a marshall 1987x with my cm plexitone, and my gibson les paul std..

Re: Your dream rig today

haven't thought too much about it...all i know for sure is, i was playing through eight 12" speakers a few months ago and now i'm playing through a 12 and two 10's and it just is not doing it for me...so i guess my dream rig would be the same rig i have now but with a 4x12 stacked on top of a 6x12.

oh and groupies...groupies that also serve as roadies so that i can watch them set that monster up.

Re: Your dream rig today

Dream rig? Hmmm...

For amps, I'd like four Tweed Bassman heads, each on a 4x12 cab. The cabinets are filled with 20-watt Pre-Rola Greenbacks and vintage Alnico Jensens, or the Weber equivalent. They are set more for low-gain, mostly as clean amps, but when cranked they'd get a nice overdriven tone, good for blues all the way up to Cream and Free tones. With a little volume knob adjustment, a good thick, but stilly sparkly clean tone is had.

For pedals, The chain would look something like this:

Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster - Analogman Beano Boost - Undecided fuzz pedal (HBE UFO?) - Teese Picture Wah - Carl Martin Plexitone - BYOC Phase 90 - ADA Flanger - KR Megavibe - Fulltone Tube Tape Echo - Tube Reverb Unit (not sure on which one yet)

Pickup booster is used to equalize volume differences between single coil and humbucker guitars. Beano Boost is to get a bit more grit and drive from the Bassman heads, the fuzz pedal is for fuzz, wah is for wah. For any tones I need heavier then Cream and Free and Led Zep, etc, I'd use the Carl Martin. The Plexi channel is set for a Van Halen-ish tone, the High Gain is set for an Iron Maiden/Whitesnake 80s tone. Also good for the boost it has. The phaser, flanger, and unvibe, are for the different textures and tones. The echo is for a bit of a double-tracked tone normally, but set for longer delays for certain solos, and for a bit of a chorus effect from the warbling of the tape. The reverb is for a surfy or bluesy type of sound, always on, usually not set more than 9 or 10 o clock, unless for effect.

Guitars would be:

-My Surf Green Strat, with Surfer set or Surfer N/M and Twangbanger
-A black, 70's styled Strat, Eb Standard. Custom Custom bridge, Classic Stack Plus N/M
-Lake Placid Blue Strat, 60s styling. Rosewood fingerboard, Texas Hots. Open E Tuning.
-My Les Paul, with Brobucker/PG Set
-A 3-pickup Custom model in Black, with Gold covered pickups: Custom/Phat Cat/Jazz Bridge
-Goldtop Les Paul 1956 Standard reissue, P90 pickups, Open A tuning.
-Melody Maker, with a Custom Tapped P90 in the bridge, but a regular Melody Maker neck pickup
-A Gretsch G5120, in Orange, with TV Jones pickups
-Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster, Custom Shop '53 JB Esquire Pickup, Antiquity Neck
-Black Telecaster, Broadcaster bridge, '59 Humbucker neck, Open G.
-Natural colored, '69 Thinline Tele Reissue, JD Bridge, Lollar Charlie Christian Neck.
-J Mascis Signature Jazzmaster, Antiquity II pickups
-Gibson EDS-1275 Double Neck, Phat Cats on the 12 String, '59 Set on 6 String (or Custom 5/59)

....I can dream, can't I? :laugh2:

Re: Your dream rig today

Brian May's live rig:

  • Brian May signature guitar
  • 3 Vox Brian May AC30s - center one dry, and left and right ones for stero effects (delays and chorus)

Re: Your dream rig today

2 custom made 8 string Kellys..(both tuned from low A to high G) with 2 custom made PATB PUs with Full Shred Character.
Diezel VH4 S ,Lexicon GIGRIG midi 8 pedal to control the amp and the Eventide H8000 harmonizer..
A Power Conditioner ,a Strobo Stomp 2 ,Sonic Maximizer and an ISP decimator would be fine.
For the amp ,i want a 2x15" sub with 2 x 12" Vintage 30 speakers.

Re: Your dream rig today

Historic LP's, 62 Hot Rod Strat, 52 Hot Rod Tele, and ES-335.

Pedalboard - Clyde Deluxe, Klon, King of Tone, with a whole row of Moog modulation pedals.

Bogner Ecstasy halfstack with Tone King Meteor II combos on both sides of it running in stereo.....both sitting on their roadcase tops.

Question for you -- and this is just me playing devil's advocate:

If your dream rig includes a '62 Hot Rod Strat and a '52 Hot Rod Tele, couldn't you sell some of your other guitars to finance these two?
