Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

i don't really know why you put the deluxe instead of the deville

those extra couple hundred are DEFINATELY worth 20 more watts

and yes, they have built in distortion. Most people either love it or find it completely useless, i think its good, but for heavier stuff you definately need a pedal

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

i had to vote other bc i like my 65 super reverb more than anything else in this category

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

Ok, I like very much the ENGL thunder 50. That's my favorite since i haven't heard anyother of the list...

For the poll though, I voted the Vox AC-30

That's why there is an "Other" category. :smack:

I think the Peavey Classic 50's deserve more than the "other" category.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

Mesa Nomad 55 with 4 10" Jensens. Sounds like a really good Pre CBS Super Reverb with 3 channels and way more power and tonal versatility.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

If I had the money, it'd say "Matchless" or "BadCat" on the front.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

can you traynor guys chime in - i've been eyeing the ycv40
i'm also considering the mesa f-30 and a used mesa nomad 45
i like the idea of 3 channels - clean, marshall crunch, and modern distortion
the f-30 and the nomad are really laid out that way, but the traynor is more of a clean and dirty with a boost feature
i only got to play the traynor for a little bit and i didn't have my guitar with me
i thought the clean was great but i'm not a blues or jazz player and i know this amp excells at these types of music
my question is, whether this baby can get that modern scooped (aka mesa f-30 contour) tone) or is the boost just a volume boost

thanks
i know i need to play the amp more to hear for myself, but i'll never get to play it as much as someone who has one intheir bedroom

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

I'd vote for a Bassman RI with a tube rectifier in it... Peavey Classic 50 or 30 would be the wallet-minded runner up for me.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

Crate V-Series.

I tried the 15 watter. My first 'real' experience with a tube amp that I enjoyed. Made me want to look at the 30. It sounds the same, I've been told, only it's a little louder.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

My favorite low wattage Amp is a Deluxe Reverb. It is the best club Amp ever. Very versatile as long as you don't have to turn the volume over 7. Over 7 it gets a little muddy.

My second choice would be a Super Reverb. I have this amp now and I will never be without one. It is much louder than the DR @ 40 watts and in most cases has a lot more bottom due to the 4 10" speakers.

Either of these two Amps with a good overdrive pedal is much better than any of the "modern" Fenders. The newer Amps the drive is to agressive IMO. I guess it depends on what you are planning to do with it. For me.... a blues player, one of these woud do almost everything I need to do :laugh2:

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

I'd take most Rivera combos over anything on that list. The Koch TwinTone is a sweet little combo as well.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

I went F-30.
I've gotten some sweet tones (appropriate to my style of course) out of them.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

JMI era Vox AC-30 - end of story ;)

I'll change my answer to "other" if the custom Fargen I get in is as sweet as I think it'll be :)
