Traynor YCV40 ... I own one and it's in my bed room right next to my tele.
Hi guys, I'm looking for my first tube amp to;
40 Watts, isn't to loud for a bedroom ? Wouldn't I be better
with the Tranor 20 watts for bedroom and small rehearsals
only ?

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

Ok... update. I said JMI era Vox AC-30. Now I'll go with my Fargen Epic 30 DC. 30w pentode / 15w triode. Channel 1 is JMI Vox stuff, pure chime and it'll give blackface Fenders a run for their money ;) Channel 2 is straight up classic rock and roll via a copy of the Marshall JTM-45. Two of the greatest amps ever in one convenient package and can be found for under 2 grand.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

I voted for the AC-30 because I think the one I had really was the best sounding all around loud combo amp I ever owned. I sold it because it was to loud and heavy...but I wish I had it back now that I have the Weber Mass. Lew

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

I voted other. Assuming price is no issue, VHT...

There are alot of phenomenal combos out there for top dollar. H&K, Soldano, Rivera, etc.

Based on your actual list, my first choice would be the F-30 based on what I've played and Peavey Classic would be my runner up. Those little Peaveys are neat, though I'd upgrade the speaker and tubes right off the bat.

Just grabbed a MESA F-50, and it's the best combo I've owned to date tone and construction-wise. Very versatile too for such a simple amp.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

Bogner Metropolis
Bad Cat Cub II

Both modern re-makes of the AC30. The Cub's 15 watts, but it sounds huge.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

Now that I have one, I'll say the Mesa Boogie Blue Angel 4x10...

2 6V6s @ 15watts
4 EL84s @ 30 watts
combine both for 38watts

NICE!!!

At full volume, both 20W and 40W are going to be very loud for bedroom but I don't believe there is much difference at a lower (bedroom) volume. 20 W version is missing few control knobs. I think 20 W version uses two EL84. 40W version uses two 6L6. Once I thought I should have gotten 20 w because of the same reason with yours but I don't have any volume problem with 40 w now.

Cheers

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

I picked the Hot Rod Deluxe, that was my last amp.... sounded great, only it was too damn big and loud for my needs.

My current amp is a Laquered Tweed Blues Jr...... the perfect amp for me. Would've voted for it but its only a 15 watt amp. I know.... who cares....

I voted Fender Blues Jr. but it's only 15 watts so it's lucky to have made the poll...

the AC30....then bassman....then bluesbreaker....

man, i was playin an AC30 on 8 with a custom shop les paul today and it was frickin amazing, and loud as frickin sh!t.....he he, i loved it

The Vox AC30 is a Class A amp, and is quite different from the rest of the Class A/B amps listed in this post.

The current batch are ReIssues that are quite different from the Vox AC30TB (Top Boost) that get's all the raves.

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

I have to go with a Super Reverb. Either a SF or BF. One of the best higher output Fenders.................. Great Amps. With a good OD pedal it can be magical

Re: Your Favorite 30-60 Watt Tube Combo?

Man, I love my Hot Rod Deluxe. SUPER versatile, and it's got the perfect roots/classic rock OD. I'm really not a class A fan :D . I can dial in that perfct light crunch at low volume and have the perfect rockin overdrive at the press of the drive/more drive button. It's just perfect for me. Pristine cleans and everything. But, I'm about to do the volume pot mod because those linear pots are terrible :D And it is a tad on the heavy side :boggled:
