I'm fascinated reading about all the old custom colors, and how sometimes they were shot over primer, sometimes over sunburst and sometimes over another botched custom like the Pink above.

Mine wasn't "botched" per say as I purposely wanted to have another color wear through in a few spots, mostly just for asthetics, but realistically most Shell Pink strats would indeed start life as another color and then get resprayed as needed since it was a color of low demand.

Most common was the burst as the ones that didnt turn out that well would get resprayed another color.

I'll tell you though, after I sprayed the whole thing blue, it was very very tempting to just leave it that color as it looked so good lol

For the metallic colors, Candy apple red without a doubt. For the non-metallic, sonic blue.

BTW, is there any kind of resource that has the colors that were available from year to year?

Right now it's Lake Placid Blue with maple board ...

I´ve always been partial to this combo...
