Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

What are your favorite distortion pedals at this moment and why ?

I'm looking at getting a new one just for some variety but right now mine is the Hardwire SC-2 valve distortion... The internal voltage has been stepped up which I think adds that extra oomph to it when kicked on, also with that toggle switch it can go from mid heavy crunch to that tight harmonic ripping distortion.

I'm curious to see if anyone is using the Malekko sloika which in the PGS demo sounds really nice

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

Boss MD-2 is my favorite. With 2 independently controlled gain stages, it can be set to overdrive or ridiculous oscillating distortion and everything in between. The "low" knob lets me hog up a lot of sonic space when I'm playing by myself.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

The Sloika is rad - really beefy and complex at the same time. Malekko makes great stuff!

Yeah the beefiness of it really entices me.... plus its a unique pedal circuitry wise.

Sucks there is no tone or EQ knobs though, kind of a turnoff

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

Right now my favorite, among ones that I own, is the Seymour Duncan Power Grid.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

My old trusty DS-1!

The often-maligned DS-1 is actually a very good, versatile pedal for the money. A fairly skilled player can make it sound just about as good or as bad as he or she wants to.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

MXR Distortion +.

Because it doesn't sound like amp distortion but still sounds brilliant.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

MXR Custom Badass D78 Distortion. That little box can do everything from Hendrix to VH to br00tal sounds.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

Never tried a Distortion + but have always wondered how it would sound

I used to have the ubiquitous yellow reissue, and I didn't like it, but I suspect I was using it the wrong way.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

I would to try the Boss Adaptive Distortion DA-2. It seems like a very cool pedal.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

MXR Distortion III or MXR Classic Distortion which are the same pedals just in red or black respectively. They can both be found in the $40-50 range used from GC.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

This one is pricey, but absolutely incredible:

Granted, it's a preamp, not just a standard distortion pedal. I also really liked the AMT LA-1 series pedals, the S1, P1, R1, E1, and B1 (in that order) were all pretty nice.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

my standby has always been a fulltone ocd. no matter where i'm playing, through whatever rig, i know i will be able to get a good sound with it.

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

My all time always was always will be is the EHX Metal Muff w/ Top Boost
- Wicked evil distortion, great tone shaping, and boost.

My current on the shelf fave is my DOD American Metal
- Thick, hot, rockin' metal! HM-2+ style!!!

Re: Your Favorite Distortion Pedal

really the metal muff ? I almost bought the smaller version on ebay the other day but resisted. I have never tried one but love the Big Muff... is the metal muff like a tighter version of that ?

There are a number of Metal Muffs out there. You want this one and this one only:
