I always hear good things about JJ EL84s. Nothing bad about them either.

Polam EL84 are fantastic. Tough to find, but sound amazing. Really warm up the treble response that I used to fight with in EL84 amps. For gain, I really like old NEC 84s. Have really nice grind in my Traynor.

I think the JJs are solid, but side by side with the others I have mentioned, they just don't have the same richness.

By far, the best modern production EL-84s are JJ's. I dig 'em, but I've never gotten into the whole NOS thing.

+1 on JJs - I have them in my Mark Iv and they are amazing.
