Mindcrime. Nice. Gimme a few ciders or shots and I can still hit Tate's high notes in Eye of a Stranger.
I need some like-minded friends who want to do covers of that album.

Badcats and Shin-Ei Companions. God what a racket. I love it.

I saw them do that at SXSW in March, whilst stood on a bass bin for a better view - 'age shall not weary him', especially not when he's freaking out to the sound of a great band...

not really a cranked amp tone but Eagles of death metal are wicked nonetheless !

Love Townshends SG p-90 tone in the late 60s early 70s.... He had something so good then switched to the Les Paul Deluxes for some reason

Because they quit making SG Specials.

I own both types - the differences in sound are not enormous. If you're talking about his recorded tones, after Tommy he switched from the Specials to recording with a Gretsch and that IMO is the biggest reason for the change in tone. He also quit using so much gain playing live and dropped the SupaFuzz entirely.

Ahh thanks for clearing that up. I LOVED his sound on Whos Next... I'm assuming that was the Gretsch.

It has a such a nice KERRANG to his power chords I instantly fell in love with that sound before I even played guitar

Stooges and Blue Cheer +1

That was when men were men and amps were cranked

I'd add MC5 to that list but I'm on a mobile and can't post vids so somebody spot me...

The Zoot - Eleanor Rigby (Rick Springfield on Guitar).. not the 'sonic avalanche' of Atkins' 'Mr Sandman', but pretty close!

Hard to pick one Brian tone as he's always sounded good but I have a thing for Brighton Rock. This is an alternate version to what was released on record. One guy who knows how to play a melting AC30!

One of the best personal tones I have gotten was on this live recording running my 25 watt Zinky Velvet unmiced in the lobby of a former Hospital. I can't fully convey how much i love this little amp and this recording finally convinced me to go back to that stock Zinky designed eminence in the little beast.

Ill have to see if I can find a clip, but one of my fav tones is George Lynch's on the Dokken recording of One Live night or what ever it was called. Sounds like he is using a small amp and you can almost visualize the sides of the amp bulging out as its on the brink of exploding..

Here is a clip; The set was basically accoustic, but George's elect tone was smokin!
