I personally can't get enough of the DiMarzio Air Norton. Damn!! That's smoothness and aggression in one! W/ tone to spare!! Your vote?

+1.

Have you tried it in the bridge? It's a sh*t load of fun there, too :)

Re: Your Favorite Shredding Neck Pup...

Distortion for a neck humbucker or a Hot Rails for a single coil sized. There are none greater for shred.

Re: Your Favorite Shredding Neck Pup...

Jazz for me as well, at least in mohog.

Re: Your Favorite Shredding Neck Pup...

I like the 59 with an alnico II mag in the neck of a LP for "shreddy" stuff. :burnout:

Re: Your Favorite Shredding Neck Pup...

Guitarist, can you elaborate more on the Air Norton, as I MIGHT by these???

scooter and jimmy, can you guys tell me what you think of your Full Shreds? Also, do the FS's have a designated neck model, or is it just a pick-up that could be used as a neck or bridge pickup???

ishmun, PLEASE tell me what you think of the PAF Pro, as I'm SERIOUSLY thinking about buying it??? Can you post a sound clip(s)???

Surely!

The Air Norton in the neck was plenty beefy. If you were to make a comparison to it, it would be like a ton of fluffed pillows hitting you in the face, pillows that were just washed and dried so they got that great warm and clean feeling! Smooth and ever airy, articulation like you'd never imagine a neck pickup under heavy gain to have, and so much balls that it makes you take a step back. Good medium output neck pickup. Great mid-high voicing, but it's got enough bass to fatten it up nicely. It'll pay close attention to every nuance of your picking technique, GREAT dynamics.

Here's what DiMarzio had to say about this pickup...

This is the neck pickup that breaks all the rules. It's fat and warm, but not muddy. It's hot, but not distorted. It's even got cool harmonics. The patented magnetic structure reduces string-pull, so sustain is improved, and pick attack and dynamics are tremendously controllable and expressive.

Sounds exciting, huh? ;) Try it.
