Your Favorite Signature Gear

Thought it would be cool to hear from those who don't mind, and even LIKE using gear with someone else's name on it. It can be a guitar, amp, pedal, pickup, cable, whatever!

My only catch is I won't include the Les Paul Standard. Any other signature Les Pauls (Slash, Jimmy Page) are ok.

Re: Your Favorite Signature Gear

The only signature piece I purposely bought because of the artist is my Dimebucker. I also have an EVH Phase 90 only because I was looking for a Phase 90 and they gave my a rock bottom price on the EVH. I do have EVH sneakers. They give you a better feel than traditional Chuck Taylors when engaging pedals. So there is that.

EDIT: Just remembered I have a Digitech Brian May Red Special in mothballs in the basement. The thing is great it nails Brian's tone. The thing is how much Queen can you play before enough is enough unless you are in a Queen tribute. I will drag it our once in a while to play a bit of Tie Your Mother Down or some other random Queen song.

I heard Ed didn't use Chuck Taylors until later on. What you hear on the first two records is actually Adidas.

Re: Your Favorite Signature Gear

The only signed item that interests me is a bounce-proof cheque.

Re: Your Favorite Signature Gear

I've only considered the Bonmassa Wah, but never bought it. I don't like paying "extra" for a sticker with someone's name on it. Those guys came up with their sounds without a signature model, why can't we?

You are partially correct. He was an Adidas guy back then but did use the Chucks on "Running With the Devil"

We absolutely can. But if a certain piece of signature gear helps us get our sound better than anything else, why shouldn't we use it?

Re: Your Favorite Signature Gear

I don't have a problem with sig gear as long as it's not endorsed by someone I don't like. That said, I don't seek out signature gear either, even if it's endorsed by someone I really like.

I think my favorite piece right now is my PRS Johnny Hiland model. Everything about it is really spot-on to my tastes, from the pickups to the neck carve.

I feel like jumping over that fence ad snatching that axe from you. That thing is so sweet.

I don't know if you would call it "signature" but I do have a WLH set in my Les Paul. Granted Jimmy Page's name is not on the box and he inst an endorser but we all know what the tonal end game is.

Re: Your Favorite Signature Gear

The only signature gear I have is an EBMM JP6 2007 LE. I was looking for a new guitar and tried everything and it was the best all around guitar at the time.

Re: Your Favorite Signature Gear

I have an ENGL Blackmore head.

I think the Shiva will be on its way out. I have no idea whether ENGL's Blackmore model is any better than their regular heads but it is cool.

Re: Your Favorite Signature Gear

I'm using a pearly gates bridge pickup, it is considered a signature piece of gear right?
it's an MJ wound and the best pickup I've ever used for nailing hardrock/classic rock tones, though lately I've been seeking a hotter and more modern sound so I might have to pop it out soon.
I also had a set of Slash's aph2s but ended up selling them before I even got a dual humbucker guitar to put them in.

Re: Your Favorite Signature Gear

Now that I think about it I have a decent amount of signature gear. ;) It was (mostly) all purchased because of the sound, not the artist. I got the two EVH modulation pedals at the same price as the standard ones (I bought them as pedalboard friendly versions of my vintage phaser and flanger). I've got the Bonamassa Fuzz Face which does a cool thing with Humbuckers, different than my other fuzz faces. I've also got the JCM800 2203KK, again, I got a great deal compared to the standard JCM800, plus the KT88s are kind of cool too.

That's ridiculous. Everyone knows Chucks aren't running shoes.
Someone should have told my friend that... ;)

That's my feeling, the signature models are usually standard production models with typical mods or tweaks. The Bonamassa items are pretty cool. The Fuzz Face uses Russian Military Transistors and the wah has a very nice board with discrete components (as opposed to the standard crybaby). If the tonal tweaks and mods are what you are after as well, I see no issue at all.
