Your guilty pleasure guitar tones

Re: Your guilty pleasure guitar tones

Whenever I hear that Ovation tone it sounds like a child’s plastic guitar with those plastic strings.
I can’t stand that tone. Lol

Most people don't like it. Which is why I think it works in this thread. But I have a hard time separating his playing from that sound- it works well for what he was doing with it. He largely abandoned steel string playing these days. Nylon string only, with a very occasional electric tour.

Re: Your guilty pleasure guitar tones

I used to have an Ovation and it never sounded plastic to me.

Gary Moore Blues Alive Soldano SLO Les Paul Tone. Being primarily a modern worship player now pulling that off in that setting is a hoot!
THIS!

I also had one. Acoustically it sounded like any other acoustic. But plugged in it didn’t do it for me.

First Evanescence record. Down tunings and baritones and sevens and Dual Rectifiers.
Once again, what's to feel guilty about?

We're for once not talking about blues and classic rock tones so we feel kinda guilty. [emoji14]

I think we are just talking about tones we don't typically use and/or never use in public? Duane Eddy sure as heck wouldn't think twice about the tone I mentioned in my post. It's just out of character for me as a player.

Re: Your guilty pleasure guitar tones

I have an Adamas, which is an Ovation with a medium bowl & carbon fiber top. It doesn't have that typical Ovation super-shallow sound. It is really loud!

Well, in truth, mine was an '89 Collector's series. So maybe it sounded a bit better than the average Applause version.

Ah, see, when I play in a band setting, it's death/thrash metal, and we definitely use those tones in public.

Re: Your guilty pleasure guitar tones

Metallica's 'ride the lightning', seputura's 'schizophrenia' album, bathory's 'blood fire death'. All three sound very similar.

Sleeps 'volume one'.. It's the brittle crunch that strikes my fancy.

Once again, nothing to be embarrassed about with any of these.

Re: Your guilty pleasure guitar tones

I have none. Just tones I like and tones I don't like. If I like it, I'm not guilty about it.

Re: Your guilty pleasure guitar tones

toss up between Dimebag's Tone on Far Beyond Driven or Chuck Schuldiner's tone on the Symbolic Record.

Re: Your guilty pleasure guitar tones

Another one for me is the chorus, delay and reverb drenched gain tones of the Line 6 Spyder. Sounds awful but so much fun to cheese rock with!
