Your "Learn to how to solder" video suggestions?

I know lots of people coming to this forum are looking to get started on soldering, not just on what tools do one need but also how to do it properly and avoid issues with DIY soldering. Is there a soldering video tutorial by Seymour Duncan? I would love to see one wouldn't you?

So I was thinking many of us learned from videos, some are most useful than others so I was thinking how about you sharing a link to videos you have seen that you think are really well explained, hands on and actually useful?

My two cents:

PACE Basic Soldering Lesson 1 - "Solder & Flux"
I really liked this as it takes its time to understand what soldering really is before actually doing it. It also allowed me to understand how proceed when you don't have a rosing core solder.

Steweart McDonald - Guitar wiring: how to get a good clean solder joint!
This is a short one but liked as it focuses on good connections and has a nice tip to avoid frying your tone capacitor.

So I was thinking many of us learned from videos

being as there was no youtube in the 80s/90s, I learned soldering from a Jackson custom shop luthier. getting away from the internet and learning hands-on from someone with more skill is an excellent way to go.

Re: Your "Learn to how to solder" video suggestions?

Excellent. Never learned how to do it right. So I will reply here so that I can more easily look back to find it!

Re: Your "Learn to how to solder" video suggestions?

Yup, maybe watch a quick one as a primer but best way is just to practice. Pots are cheap and VERY hard to damage with a soldering iron.

After I paid $40 for a pickup install I knew I had to learn myself. I've now built 500 series mic preamps. I'm not the best, and still make mistakes (when I modded my re-amp box I lifted a trace, so that was fun to fix) but it's a great skill to have. Working at the music store was a huge help as not only did I have to solder on guitars often, but the one guy there was VERY good at it and improved my soldering big time with seemingly simple tips.

Check out "Dave's World Of Fun Stuff" on YouTube. That is Dave's channel and he has got some great videos. I always enjoy Dave!

Suck at it.

Always have.

Always will.

Unfortunate.

:(

On the other hand, you're "neighbors" with someone who's a card-carrying, NASA-certified, annually tested, solderer. ;)

And . . . I might be able to teach you. But what's the point? You play. I'll solder. :beerchug:

Re: Your "Learn to how to solder" video suggestions?

Come on. If I can improve with my neurological shakes then you can. The first time I changed 1 pickup it literally took me 2 hours. I was thinking how am I going to do this?? Because I couldn't stay steady for work that fine.

Re: Your "Learn to how to solder" video suggestions?

I learned that the most important thing is, the iron has to be really hot in order to obtain a secure joint. It doesn't matter the type of tin used.

Artie,you're such a tease,man...

I've got more stuff that doesn't work than does, hence my playing "only" the ones that actually function.

Getting tight & that's not including teh blowed up amps...
