Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

My main guiar for the time being is a Squier Classic vibe Telecaster custom... I used to use humbucker guitars but I found through my set up with a lot of fuzzes and Ampeg style dirt that Tele single coils sound the dirtiest without getting farty which the humbucker guitars I was using for a while were like. I do have my eye on a Godin Icon 3 P-90 or another P-90 style guitar but I'm quite happy with this Tele

what's yours ?

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

I don't really have a main axe. I rotate through several regularly gravitating towards Strats. A good Tele-type is very satisfying though as is an acoustic (Nekkid of course :D).

Yeah I'm the same with guitars they come and go every few months but I have had the Classic Vibe for a few years now and It just always inspires me everytime I pick it up !

My Epi SG.
'59s, sprague orange drop caps and alpha pots, graphtech nut and kluson style tuners.
Also right now it's got a nice gash/ding on the edge below the bridge tone control, from last night's gig.

My MIJ '62RI strat.
handwound single coils courtesy of Rose Pickups, orange drop cap and alpha pots, graphtech saddles. Other than that, everything is stock.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

I have over 30 guitars so I know what your saying about playing and alternating.... But my main Humbucker is an'85 335. It just sounds beautiful. Lately I have been playing my 68 SG standard that I have had forever (bought it new). And I have several Strats that I really like. My EC STRAT I would say is my #1

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

My Main Axe: Called #1 because I couldn't find a name so #1 stuck. A 1979 Les Paul Standard that has been mine since Christmas of 1979.

Next to it's new best buddy

High Ratio tuners replaced the krappy Klusons after a strap disaster (as well as strap locks). Stay in tune like no one's business!

Buckle rash down to mahogany - twice!

Finish played off the neck - the hard way. Doen to bare maple.

Distortion replaced tired old T-top around 1993 or so.

Real T-Top in the neck. Been there since 79 and can out Slash Slash's A2P's.

My #1 is a 2002 "true" Custom Shop (i.e. built to order) '52-spec NOS Esquire in Desert Sand with a birdseye neck and a Callaham black guard. Here is a pic that is not the best, but that shows the guitar OK:

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

that's a nice looking esquire and Aceman that's amazing that you have been playing that Les Paul for so many years.. goes to show once you find the right "one" you hold onto it

And, any of the left 3 guitars. The black Custom isn't a main player, as much as I should say F it and wear it out.

The money maker. Taylor 310-CE. I really don't play much anymore without singing and this thing just works every time. There are better guitars but after a solid decade this thing feels like a part of my body.

this is my exact feelings about my Classic Vibe Tele... sure I could go out and spend big money on a Fender 72 Fender Telecaster custom reissue but I feel no need to, this 400 dollar tele just feels right to me.

Amazing collection gearjoneser !

Been playing guitar for 35 years now and have never had a guitar that is as 'me' as this one. Neck feels like it was made for me, P-90s are well - there's nothing better IMO, and the wraptail bridge adds just enough zing that I can cop faux-Tele sounds. I never fully appreciated just how important a bridge is to how a guitar sounds until I got this thing. It's light and resonant, warm and clear - rings so loud unlpugged that I play it as much acoustically as I do into an amp. Just a perfect guitar for what I do.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

Gear J...take that black axe and smash a cab or two and then rock out. It's a guitar, not a holy relic. Either that or not and get 5K for it and let it roll over until retirement.

Re: Your Main Axe (Include Pics!!)

My number 1 has been the same no matter what else I have since it was assembled in 1993. I know I can count on this one time and again. It's seen quite a few pickup swaps since about 2005 but it's so dialed in with the Screamin Demon/Slash neck combo. I can't see myself changing them out.

Warmoth construction neck w/ boatneck contour, Chandler body, Gotoh bridge, Fender tuners (second set), graphite nut.

2006 MIJ Strat... great guitar, it's all I've used for almost half a year. Pickups are a Quarter Pound in the bridge and 2 Texas Specials. It's really something.
