Interesting, next time a germanium pedal finds it's way into my hands, I might have to borrow some of my church's recording equipment to a/b warm versus cold.

Specifically it’s germanium transistors. Germanium clipping diodes, while affected will have a very small audible difference. Try a germanium fuzz face, that’s one reason some many builders include an external bias control now.

BOSS NS-2. Sometimes it completely saves a day onstage. Sometimes even a subtle reduction feels so awkward that I cable bypass it. I think it just does the very same thing, it's just me.

my nkt sunface sounds like its broken if the temp isnt right. if its too cold it barely works at all, not sure what that guy is thinkin

I have never experienced it myself, so don't know. I messed with a germanium fuzz face clone for a week or two but in very controlled conditions. Same with a Rangemaster clone and Overdriver clone. Always cool room temps, never cold or hot. But there are definitely some fuzz lovers out there who don't like what happens when they get too hot?

i can only speak for my germanium fuzz, the sunface and fulltone soul bender, but they are happiest at room temp. below 60 or above 80 and they dont sound right, when they are very cold or very hot they sound broken or barely make noise at all

My Rangemaster clones are finicky. Both with germanium transistors too. Those things do react to temp. It was said that Hendrix's tech would have a box of Fuzz boxes so if one started to sound like crap during a show, he'd swap it out for another one. The transistor leakage has a lot to do with it too.

If you have finicky Germanium pedals, just build a micro thermal chamber enclosure with a pre heating element controlled by thermostat

Half joking, but honestly if your Hendrix playing in front of 50,000 at Monterey or 400,000 at Woodstock... you probably consider this :lmao:

I think the biggest things that Hendrix were worried about was that the venue was only designed to hold 70,000 people and the slushie machine was broken.

the last time I did that (1999?) -I called my mom at 6am in the morning to tell her how much I love her -over and over and over and over and over....

so had to dial that back....

ha... but I do think Hendrix was much more calculated and crafty than people know.... The rumors and legends benefit him -even during his own lifetime.

Boss DS-1. I do think that part of the question should be the most bi-polar your ears are from day to day. Mine seem to change all the time but perhaps that's age related !

Sometimes you love it, sometimes you hate it, no matter where you set the controls there are some days you think “why did I buy this” other days you think “this rocks!”

Pretty much any multi-effect modeler! I use a GT-1000 and have a constant love/hate relationship with it! It sounds great, as good as any modeler out there IMHO, but I hate programming it (or any).
