Your/My Musical Legacy

Yes, but this thread is now at peak Phantasmagoria saturation. A bit of back and forth would be nice, especially considering I still haven’t got any answers about my health concerns. Not without yet another battery of tests.

You can post a few clips (I felt 5 was a healthy limit,) but I encourage everyone to listen to each other’s music and comment like Seashore did for me and I did for you rather than just dump and split…. Even if you don’t like it, at least say why.

That’s why I suggested a limit. Posting too many clips makes it really difficult to comment on because I just don’t have that much time, so your strongest 5, a link to your channel if there’s more you want people to check out and engage with the premise. If you can abide, everything is cool.

Eh, well my first post predicted no great inrush of contributions into this thread (and *viola* lol).

Since nothing was happening in here (or about to happen). I posted an extra video featuring my budding vocal talents which could rightly be taken to be a part of my legacy as well (& hence 'on topic').

I'm the only one who even commented on anyone else's stuff in here (ie yours...which was the only option anyway).so I would'nt say I dumped and ran at all..

I'm a strong believer that a video (or a comparison to a video) is worth a thousand words..(tho' words do seem to be a lot more popular here :lmao:), but eh actually playing something when describing a tone or technique or demo'ing gear beats rapping on all day about it with the usual tired cliche's..like "my tone has a brown-ish edge to it" or "it's really organic" or w/e..

That's why I compared your band to actual bands it reminded me of. After that, all you had to do was google a song or two of their's (if you didn't already know them) and you'd know exactly what I meant :bigthumb:

And yeah, all this happened like a month or so ago...maybe two . I have'nt posted in here or thought of doing so since...holy necro :D

I didn’t say you dumped and ran, I just said that’s what I don’t want to happen which people might do if they’re overwhelmed. Never say never.

This is an Interesting idea. Let me think about this one.

Five songs to represent my “legacy”? Hm.

Fair warning: I haven’t been able to post multiple links in a post for some time. We’ll see.

1. This is a signature tune from my band. I recorded this using the Celtic Franklin built by Scott_F. No effects; just volume control. The melody is all mine.
2. From the same album: a ballad that I wrote about 25 years ago. It was from a time of personal worship. I shared it with the band, and they wanted to record it.

3. Another ballad from our last album. I shared this one awhile back. The only guitar is a short solo. Our drummer and primary writer, gave me the lyrics and said “do something with this.” I wrote the music and melody.
4. from our 2nd album: another song that the drummer gave me lyrics and asked me to do something with it. This sat in my email for a couple of years. He was expecting a ballad based on his lyrics. Most of the music is mine, but he contributed significant parts.

5. Also from the 2nd album: I was supposed to be doing a lyrical rewrite for a rocking riff I had. We had developed this with the two singers we had to fire. The female singer wrote the lyrics, but I was never satisfied with them. Instead, this song came out. It demonstrates a pattern that’s kinda weird: most of the songs I wrote have little guitar. This one has one of my favorite riffs, though. It’s in the outro section before the “build”. This is the only song that I gave guidance for the drums. I usually leave that to the drummer.
Honorable mention: I think we do a better version of this song now, but the guitar part is an amusing story . I joined the band a few months before going into the studio for our 1st album. I had NO IDEA what I was going to play on this song. The drummer had written the keys and bass lines, but didn’t really have a guitar part. That’s strange because he is a riff master.

When they pressed record, the rhythm came out like this. I added the leads a few days later. This is NOT me on vocals.

Sweet! You guy's remind me of bands like Kragens, Death Over Threat & maybe even a bit of Tourniquet. thrashy but w/ some other/kinda progressive elements thrown in..
Don't forget grunge influences. You can definitely hear some AIC in El Dunco's music. Cool stuff.

Good thread. You guys are great. There's some good talent on here. I really like Les's music (even though he always ignores me). It has cool 70s rock and mysto 70s metal vibes. Plus I'm Christian too and like his messages.

Phantz, we even like you too. You have cool style with your gore slop.

Lol at the back and forth about Phantz running over the thread as usual. Since you're calling out people for not posting, Phantz, here's the best representation of me: I've played different instruments and been in different bands. Mostly rock and jazz. I sucked bad at drums and vocals, I was ok at guitar and bass but had to quit cuz finger injury, and I seem to be the best at keys. I'm happy that I feel I have something to offer musically.

Beautiful piece! Thanks for the great comment. Les had this song a while back that really spoke to me called “From Lies to Light” IIRC.

I enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing.

Probably worth mentioning my CT came back clean. I don’t have the big C. I still need further tests but I have time on my side now. ‍

Fantastic news! Congrats! Great news from the Dr really makes you feel on top of the world.
