I had a Fender Champ and like an idiot I sold it . I retubed it , put in a Weber speaker and with a delay pedal the cleans were beautiful. I also used a Tonebone Hot British Distortion pedal and it sounded like a gain monster and could easily do saturated metal tones. The cabniet for the Champ is bigger that most amps with an 8 inch speaker so it gives a bigger sound. I`ve never played or heard a Blues Jr. so I can`t comment on it but if it was me and I was just gonna play in the house a moderate levels I`d go with the Champ!
i play mainly rock & older metal type stuff, distorted/overdriven tones, so good cleans are nice, but i'm mainly looking for a good solid semi-high gain sound.

You may want to consider a red knod Champ 12 .The clean channel is
sweet (pure class A chime ) and the gain channel will give you a 80's
style distortion. One of the best practice amps ever made IMHO. And
I have giged w/t mine. granted your drummer not a maniac :13: It can
keep up.
