Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

I tend to believe the guys on TGP, the Tone Czar Echo Czar is king.

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

Of the ones I've used?

Fulltone Tube Tape Echo, Maxon AD999 (analog).

I prefer the analog sound of the Maxon to the tape sound of the TTE, but the TTE was still killer. The best modulated delay I've heard/used is an old Space Echo....with an Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man coming in second.

The Tone Czar Echo Czar is said to be a nice analog unit, but seeing as someone just recieved #38 I'm going to consider it a hype product until the initial rush plays out.....

Best digital.....TC Electronic 2290, though some consider it's sound somewhat dated compared to the new generations of high end digital delays.

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

Delay is one of the things that a digital design improves. I like the Gibson/Oberheim Echoplex Digital Pro (a great looper/dealy) and the Line 6 Echo Pro or DL4. What I look for on a delay is live control- I like to manipulate and warp the sound live.

Full Tone Tape Echo. You can use it to get real tube distortion on the echoes and everything. The sound is very just warm and clear.

Fulltone Tape Echo...

The meazzis of the 60's kick ass.

THE BEST.......I don't know

But my H&K Replex works for me:bigthumb:

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

I'm a big lo fi fan, so the EHX 16 second delay is pretty ace, as is the Deluxe Memory man. Use them both extensivley.

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

Boss DD-3 works for me. I'm very happy with it... Very versatile but repetitions are very hi-fi which may not suit everybody

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

I haven't heard the Fulltone tape echo but from what I've read it's pretty darn good. The Maxon AD900 is untouchable (imo) in the 'pedals' class.
The 999 is nice but the 900 sounds better bewcause of the Panasonic chips and also because it runs on 12v.

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

I have 2 analog delays- a Boss DM-2 and an old Washburn Analog Delay. Out of the 2, I prefer the Washburn. I played a small, hot pink colored one (Goya- or something like that?) but that thing was in excess of $300. In any case, it was a fine analog delay.

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

I'm a fan of the line 6 DL4. I'd love to try the fulltone, though...

Re: Your Opinion on the BEST Sounding Delay...Regardless of $$

I'm another who's a fan of the DL-4. I like to know that I have a wide range of tones if I want them. In truth, I rarely use them. I tend to use the digital delay model the most often and it's what I'm looking for- a fairly faithful recreation of the original tone. But the gnarly tones are in there if I need them, dang it! I also like the tap tempo, the ability to have the delays trail off after it's turned off or true bypass, and the three presets.

The first Delay I ever used was an echoplex. A real tape Delay system. I really liked the way it sounded, but it was to problematic. Good for the studio.

That Fulltone Echo is ridiculous! The Maxon AD999 looks nice, but I'm interested in what Trilogy said...about the AD900. Hmm...I'll keep looking. Thanks! And keep 'em coming.
